We have an exciting opportunity in Oncology for a Project Support Officer.

This is for a 12 month secondment/fixed term.

This is for 37. 5 hours but will consider between 30-37.5

As a team player you will work closely with colleagues to make great things happen across the Oncology specialty

You will have a project management qualification (or with equivalent experience) and be able to adapt your working style to suit the needs of a diverse and very busy department.

You will help to ensure maximum performance in projects, providing purpose, direction, and motivation and coordinate internal and external resources, ensuring projects remain within scope, schedule, and defined budgets.

You will analyse project progress and share with stakeholders by presenting at regular operational/management meetings. A vital part of this role is to establish and maintain relationships in order to ensure engagement and to help with buy-in for projects.

You will be a team player and use your initiative to be able to manage your own workload and to support the success of many different projects/service improvements.

This role is hybrid, with the option of working from home. However, requires some days in the office and the attendance of regular meetings.

Main duties of the job

Provide an efficient and comprehensive project and administrative support service to the Oncology team, to assist in the planning and delivery of agreed project deadlines.

Support the various teams and the causes of any variation from target/plan and proactively contribute to implement solutions.

To work effectively with the governance team to look at themes/ risks, reviewing data and incidents to improve processes.
Individual work on elements of larger projects as required.

Intelligence gathering to support bids and business cases where needed
Work flexibly and adapt to situations as they arise using judgment and initiative to make informed decisions.

Analyzing and interpreting data as part of the wider projects and presenting this in the operational group meetings.

Assisting with reports and admin for the wider team.

Organise meetings and events for projects as required, which may include co-ordination of venues and speakers, helping to prepare supporting information and documents.

Maintain project information system and produce project documents and regular and ad hoc reports for the oncology team and other groups as required.

Support the oncology team with the development of benefit realisation plans and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).

Working for our organisation

Oncology speciality serves a resident population of 1.1 million and currently sees approximately 5,000 new patients each year (at City Hospital and Kingsmill); providing a comprehensive range of non-surgical oncology services to the East Midlands.

Oncology has invested in a high calibre acute oncology nursing team supporting the acute care of cancer patients admitted to city hospital campus as well as providing outreach support at Queen’s medical centre.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The individual will support Oncology in tasks such as (but not exclusive to) setting up and maintaining project documentation, producing regular and ad hoc reports, being a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, carrying out research and development, monitoring risks, monitoring the achievement of milestones and supporting meetings and events.

The role will require strong planning, organisational and negotiating skills to ensure effective engagement of all parties and co-ordination of projects.

Improving patient safety, quality and patient experience is an explicit priority and needs to underpin all elements of work.
