**Job Summary**

**A well-qualified and experienced practitioner is required from September 2023 to take responsibility for the oversight and management of Pastoral and Safeguarding matters as Deputy Head Pastoral and DSL.**

This is an exciting opportunity for the right applicant to involve themselves in the Pastoral and Safeguarding provision for our pupils in these year groups. They will work collaboratively and in close liaison with the Senior Deputy Head and Deputy Heads to continue to develop outstanding pastoral care across the whole school. They will possess the ambition, creativity, determination and skills to ensure that pupils achieve their personal best.

The position will be responsible to the Headmaster. The role will form part of the school Senior Management team. Responsibilities will include:
**DSL**:

- To act as Designated Safeguarding Lead for BCPS.
- To maintain a culture of Positive safeguarding across the school.
- To have responsibility of staff safeguarding training.
- To manage all safeguarding logs (on My Concern).
- To management the BCPS Safeguarding team.
- To liaise with the college DSL team.
- To work with outside agencies.
- To manage referrals.
- To provide support for staff.
- To keep up-to-date with changes to KCSIE.

**Deputy Head Pastoral (Years 4-8)**:

- To be responsible for pastoral oversight of pupils (Years 4-8).
- To liaise and collaborate with Deputy Head (Pastoral N-Y3) and Assistant Head (Pastoral) at the Prep.
- To be responsible for overseeing and promoting Pupils’ Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development (SMSC) and British Values throughout the school.
- To update the school development plan and all policies related to pastoral care, in liaison with other members of the pastoral team.
- To have oversight for school rewards and sanctions, rules and regulations.

**Specific duties for all roles in senior management**:

- To be supportive of the school and its aims.
- To act as a senior member of the staff room providing guidance and example to colleagues.
- To ensure good communication within the school community between the Senior Management Team and the staff body.
- To promote the highest standards of teaching and learning throughout the school.
- To assist with the Admissions activity, including assessments (ongoing and annual).
- To attend a year group residential trip as required.
- To be fully involved in the marketing of BCPS and its related activities, eg: admissions events.
- To attend regular meetings and Away Days as required by the Headmaster.
- To participate in the appraisal process of staff as required.
- To assist the Headmaster in identifying CPD needs for relevant staff.
- To continue to enhance own professional development, acquiring management expertise and leadership skills for present and future use.
- To assist in the interviewing, selection, guidance and appraisal of the staff.
- To complete regular duties as determined, including a weekly late duty to include checking daily registers.
- To carry out lesson observations and complete associated paperwork.
- To carry out tasks that arise as part of the Senior Management Team as requested by the Headmaster.
- To liaise with the wider College facilities team (catering, cleaners, porterage) when necessary for special arrangements or events.
- To attend relevant cluster meetings and Family of Schools meetings as appropriate.
- To liaise with College and Family of Schools equivalent personnel as appropriate.
- To be responsible for allocated policies.
- To mentor designated members of staff.
- To assist in the preparation of management reports as requested by the Headmaster.

**Specific teaching responsibilities (reduced teaching timetable)**:

- To be responsible for teaching an allocated timetable, according to school policies and schemes of work.
- To be responsible for the quality of learning of pupils within his/her lessons.
- To positively encourage pupils to realise their full potential and set an example of best practice to other members of staff.
- To create and maintain effective partnerships with parents to support and improve pupils’ achievements and personal development.
- To carry out all jobs outlined in the class teacher job description.

**Safeguarding responsibilities**:

- This role will involve daily contact with pupils, and you will be engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
- All staff and volunteers have a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
