Job Introduction
The role of Head of Data Management (“HoDM”) is to develop a data strategy for the business. This will be achieved by having a good understanding of the company’s overall direction, strategy, and current operations, to shape the business’s data needs and feeding into the reporting architecture.

This role is responsible for directing the activities of the Data Management team to ensure they are aligned with the organisational strategy and objectives; co-ordinating the delivery of timely, accurate data to support evidence-based decision making within the organisation and lead a high performing team. This role is pivotal in setting the data strategy for the organisation in-conjunction with the Head of Analytics and Director of Performance, ensuring that we maximise the use of intelligence to deliver superior performance, including the use of appropriate systems, software’s, and training to deliver a highly efficient service to the wider organisation.

The HoDM must keep up to date with relevant guidance and consider the impact of any relevant national legislation developments the organisation should be preparing for. As the role is pan-enterprise, covering all areas of the business both operational and corporate areas, the HoDM must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with all levels of management and manage the function effectively, including the ability to work within a dynamic and highly fast-paced organisation, managing competing demands robustly.

The combined performance function (data management, analytics and performance) is fundamental to upskilling teams across the business to understand data, reporting and performance and increase accountability for driving results, this includes defining the requirements of data/reports to contain the right information, in the right forum, that empowers our leadership team from service level management up-to board, to scrutinise, challenge, contribute effectively to the improvement requirements of the business and draw out the success to be celebrated.

Main Responsibilities
**Strategic**
- Developing the vision for Data Management.
- Ensuring team strategy and objectives align to those of the Organisation and leading on the implementation.
- Horizon scanning and setting future direction.

**Upward management, gravitas, outside**
- Collaborate across functions and services as the data management expert-influencing, educating and inspiring others to aim for a shared goal that delivers benefits for all.
- Drive future transformation to maximise the impact of data by providing a framework and leadership that fosters innovation.

**Operational**
- Manage concurrent projects and deployment of resources most effectively. Ensure delivery of the departments targets and KPIs meeting the needs of the wider business.

**Service Management**
- Lead / support others in engagement with senior customers and partners to ensure the effective delivery and implementation of data projects.

**Staff Management**
- Experience of leading a team in the provision of quality assured data products.
- Leading, developing and managing, including external recruitment and internal progression of data management team members.
- Direct line management responsibility for the Data Management team, which includes ensuring team capability continually matures and is an enabler for wider analytical work

**Technical skills**:

- Master’s degree in a relevant field including Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- Data Management including competencies for SQL coding, extracting and loading data from heterogeneous data sources, data manipulation, data quality management, reference and master data management.

**Knowledge**:

- Data modelling methodologies including Relational and Dimensional methodologies.
- Application of data science techniques, such as machine learning, artificial intelligence and descriptive statistics.
- Public Cloud, Private Cloud and on-premise data management solutions.
- Health and Social Care data and reporting requirements; collection, analysis and submission.
- The NHS standard contract and its impact on information management and reporting within an organisation delivering NHS services.
- Clinical and non-clinical systems; their configuration and use.
