Apprentice Nuclear Medicine Practitioner

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, reliable and highly motivated individual to join our dedicated team at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire, as an Apprentice Nuclear Medicine Practitioner.
You will be part of a large clinical team that provides a specialised, comprehensive and patient-centred Nuclear Medicine service including; imaging, non-imaging, molecular radiotherapy and PET-CT.

To learn and develop skills to become competent in a comprehensive range of Nuclear Medicine Procedures.
To undertake full Healthcare Science Practitioner Training Programme (PTP) BSc (Honours) degree through University of West of England or similar educational institution offering an equivalent course on a block release/distance learning basis.
To achieve independent practice in Nuclear Medicine and obtain registration with RCT (register of Clinical Technologists)/Academy of Healthcare Science
It is expected that at least 80% of the Apprentice’s time will be spent in the workplace.
The apprentice will have 7.5 hours per week study time.

1. Undertake all duties as laid down in the ‘training-plan’ to meet all competencies in the Healthcare Science Practitioner Training Programme.
2. Fulfil the requirements of UWE BSc Clinical Science (Nuclear Medicine) Practitioner Training Programme. Attend UWE on a block release basis when required and complete the distance learning in a satisfactory and timely fashion as specified by the educational establishment.
3. To learn and practice, under supervision, all aspects of Nuclear Medicine to meet PTP competencies and comply with departmental and Trust policies and procedures.
4. Organise and plan training time with allocated training supervisor.
5. Perform all Nuclear Medicine duties under supervision until ‘signed-off’ as competent for any individual task.
6. Perform Clinical Nuclear Medicine Studies as delegated by Technical Manager according to agreed protocol.
7. Participate in multi-disciplinary team working.
9. Ensure effective communication with patients, carers and all healthcare professionals about all aspects of patient care.
10. Maintain accurate documentation pertaining to the investigation/procedure undertaken.
11. To make effective and efficient use of resources, maintaining and treating equipment and resources with care.
12. Keep the work area clean and tidy, following specific Trust and Departmental procedures, for the handling and disposal of hazardous waste including ‘radioactive waste’.
13. Perform any other duty that may be specified by the Training supervisor or the Technical manager.
