It is essential that the Dean engages wholeheartedly in our diocesan vision, which is to grow as Kingdom People, sharing the good news of Jesus’ love in Worcestershire and Dudley. As the body of Christ, God’s Kingdom People, we join together to worship God, make disciples, share hope, and transform communities as we live out values of love, compassion, justice and freedom. In working towards that vision, we have identified four priorities.

One priority is to double the number of children and young people in our churches. Work with children and young people is something of a ‘given’ for the cathedral, with its choristers and its close connection with the King’s School - the Dean will be on its governing body. There is a great need to encourage children and young people other than musicians to engage in worship in the Cathedral. The Dean must also, of course, ensure best practice and policies in safeguarding both the young and the vulnerable. We have as a priority to renew at least one church in each of our main urban areas. The cathedral has been a ‘resourcing church’ since long before the phrase was coined.

The cathedral is not the only church in the city Engagement and collaboration with the city churches - of all denominations - and with the area deanery will be essential and mutually beneficial, not least in relation to our four priorities. Also beneficial to our mission are our partnership links with Peru, Morogoro and Magdeburg, to which I expect the Cathedral to participate enthusiastically and the Dean to be committed.

Main Responsibilities
These will include:

- Being an imaginative and inspirational Spiritual leader for the Chapter and wider community, valuing the Benedictine tradition and exploring new ways in which the Cathedral can bring the transforming love of Christ to all.
- Enabling the Cathedral community to inhabit and own ambitious designs for its future, creating an environment of aspirational possibilities grounded in the abundant generosity of the love of God.
- Promoting the Cathedral as the mother church of the diocese by embodying its priorities and ensuring the alignment of strategy with this whilst presenting a contemporary understanding of the role of Worcester Cathedral as a place of prayer, learning, and welcome for the Diocese and City.
- Ensuring that the Cathedral continues to be known as a place for excellence in music, preaching, liturgy, eco-awareness and pastoral care, whilst having the confidence to explore and support a diversity of worship styles.
- Prayerfully stewarding and growing the financial health of the Cathedral, recognising the need to uphold the values and sanctity of the Cathedral, ensuring its future financial resilience and identifying opportunities to resource mission.
- Inhabiting the role of Dean as an outward looking and proactive communicator, developing, role-modelling and encouraging consultation and engagement with internal and external stakeholders which builds the morale of staff and grasps the missional possibilities of the Cathedral.
- Leading Chapter on engaging stakeholders in the development and articulation of a strategy for the future of the Cathedral, which is grounded in its Benedictine inheritance.

Someone who is:

- **A gifted priest securely rooted in their own spiritual life,** with resilience coming from spiritual depth. While open to the needs of others, this person will be committed to the daily corporate payer of cathedral worship whilst also ensuring that the cathedral is a place of liturgical openness and hospitality.
- **A pastoral visionary who takes joy in reaching out and journeying alongside others. **A passionate interlocutor who values forming and tending relationships both within and outside of the Cathedral, and who is sustained through fellowship.
- **A missional evangelist who can balance the vital traditions of Cathedral life alongside a range of outreach which complements our devotion to and love of God. **A curious and creative innovator with a passion for exploring fresh opportunities for the Cathedral with understanding and sensitivity.
- **An engaging and theologically literate preacher, celebrant and worship leader who is able comfortably to adopt a range of traditions to share the Gospel with all.** A person who encourages others to glorify God through excellence in liturgy and music.
- **An energetic leader who is able to negotiate complexity, develop strategy, make courageous decisions and retain a broad overview while understanding when it is important to engage with detail.** This person will be financially astute and be passionate about the custodianship and growth of the Cathedral’s resources.
- **An inspiring disciple who unites, empowers and is committed to nurturing the gifts of others and encouraging them** to fulfil the potential of the Cathedral as the Mother Church to the Diocese and as a faithful symbol of the love of Jesus at work.
