**Role Purpose**

Box Up Crime exists to make sure that crime does not steal their dreams and lives.

We help young people to develop and grow into positive young leaders through a bespoke programme boxing, mentoring, career advice and community engagement.

The role of a programme leader/mentor is to deliver interventions in line with our vision, working with young people and adults aged (7 - 19) in various setting who may be involved or at risk of school exclusion, social isolation, criminal activity or anti-social behaviour whilst building trusting and positive relationships.

**Main duties and responsibilities**

Take young people through a mentoring programme ‘The Real Me’ either in a group 15+ or 1-1 setting, where they can gain real opportunities, advice, direction and support. Develop relationships with them so that they have someone they can trust and rely on.

Undertake one-to-one engagement with young people; offering support around employment and/or education, and other issues as they arise for young people.

Ensure any child protection issues and any other risk related to the young person are identified, reported and managed in line with Box Up policies and procedures.

Boxing basics for young people within educational, community settings and our weekly community sessions.

Accurately document all client interaction on Box up case diaries forms, always working in line with the company case management policy.

Clear communication with the young person. caseworker and programme coordinator. Must display excellent leadership skills, planning and good communication skills.

Provide a model for a healthy, trusting relationship through clear communication and setting appropriate boundaries.

Empower young people to resolve current issues and to develop coping strategies for the future.

Access to car is an essential part of the role.

**General Responsibilities**

Be flexible and carry out other associated duties as may arise, develop or be assigned in line with the company vision.

Abide by all organisational policies, codes of conduct and practices.

Support and promote inclusion, diversity and equality of opportunity in the workplace.

**Personal specification and experience**

Minimum of 6 months of experience of working with young people who present challenges and lack motivation. This could be through volunteering, youth work or other settings.

Building effective relationships with young people, preferably in a multi-cultural inner city setting and motivating and enabling young people who display levels of anti
- social behaviour to make positive changes in their lives.

Experience of contact with hard-to-reach young people (those facing social exclusion, disadvantage and disaffection) from deprived communities including those involved in risk taking behaviour or offending.

Mentoring experience and entering case notes and monitoring systems.

Empathetic, aware, with an understanding of the needs, issues and concerns of young people at risk of exploitation or offending/re-offending.

Flexible and adaptable with an ability to think on your feet and use their initiative.

Able to present as a good role model to young people and help them to achieve their potential; actively encouraging others and receptive to new ideas. Gives energy and has a can do attitude.

Self-motivated with confidence to work alone but can also work co-operatively and flexibly as part of a team.

Can maintain professional boundaries and confidential working practices.
