**About Us**

Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron science facility. By accelerating electrons to near light-speed, Diamond generates brilliant beams of light from infra-red to X-rays which are used for academic and industry research and development across a range of scientific disciplines including structural biology, physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, earth and environmental sciences.

**About the Role**

We are thrilled to announce an excellent opportunity for a dynamic and innovative Scientist to lead our Imaging and Microscopy group at Diamond.

We pride ourselves on our strengths in nanoscale in-situ studies, sample environment development, computational imaging, and correlative multi-scale workflows. We are also actively engaged in developing robust methods, pioneering new approaches and user-friendly workflows in areas such as ptychography.

You will be responsible for:

- Providing leadership to a team of Principal Beamline Scientists.
- Promoting in-house/collaborative research activity.
- Developing your own internationally recognised research activity.
- Acting as Project Sponsor for beamline upgrade projects and software projects in the group or cross group.
- Coordinating the group instrument and software development program, and prioritising capital projects.
- Actively developing joint activities with other groups to exploit synergies across Diamond and direct joint research activity within the group within the area of sample environments and sample preparation.

**About You**

You must have an active research program in a field relevant to the group, be able to highlight your personal contributions to research publications and demonstrate international recognition for your work.

You will also demonstrate:

- Experience in leading or managing a team of scientific and technical staff.
- An International reputation in one of the groups research areas and an excellent publication record.
- A broad understanding of the various research themes in the village and knowledge of strategic scientific priorities.
- Project management experience including budgetary and resource management responsibility for large projects.
