**About you**

We are seeking an individual that has a strong experimental science and industry engagement background, that is capable of translating the scientific and technical knowledge embodied in the CLF, across multiple disciplines, into potential solutions to problems or challenges faced by industry and non-academically based organisations. If that is you, you will have a natural flair that is able to push forward our industry partnerships and engagement strategy, and to further grow the innovation and direct societal impact of our work. You will be confident in directly and/or indirectly leading a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers in identifying new opportunities for future partnerships, and building upon those that already exist. As part of the senior management team of the CLF, you will have a naturally diplomatic style that engenders confidence in internal and external senior leaders and stakeholders, maintaining and developing relationships.

**Key parts of the role will be to**:

- provide leadership and design strategies to create growth and diversification in proprietary entities accessing the CLF
- oversee the industry / non-academic user access programme and provide reports on outcomes - help develop impact cases
- network with a multi-disciplinary community and facilitate interactions between CLF and industrial / non-academic partners across many sectors where appropriate
- manage a small, multi-disciplinary team of scientists
- oversee CLF’s innovation and business engagement portfolio, working collaboratively with STFC’s Business and Innovation Directorate

**Person Specification**

The essential criteria below will be assessed at Shortlisting (S), Interview (I) or both (S&I)
- scientifically trained, ideally to PhD level (S)
- leadership and stakeholder relationship management - a passion for working with industry and non-academic agencies (S&I)
- capable of translating complex concepts to non-experts (S&I)
- excellent and diplomatic communication skills both verbal and written, with a natural ability to engage industrial and scientific audiences, with diverse levels of technical ability (S&I)
- the ability to build trustworthy relationships both internally and externally and work as a team member delivering commitments on time (I)
- the ability to work independently and manage projects including negotiation (I)
- analytical thinking and problem solving, involving creation of new ideas and approaches and ability to directly engage where appropriate in experimental campaigns (S&I)
- an understanding of finance & contract management (S&I)

**Additional Information**

You will be required to undertake UK and Overseas travel as required.
This role is full time and is not remote. It is based at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Oxfordshire. Some flexibility for home working can be negotiated.
