An exciting opportunity has arisen for newly qualified nurses to join the Forensic Intensive Recovery Support Team supporting male and female service users with complex needs through the secure care pathway. You will be provided with the tools to help you grow in confidence and begin your lifelong journey as an accountable, independent, knowledgeable and skilled practitioner.

Our preceptorship programme is designed specifically to offer structured support to newly qualified nurses beginning their career in mental health nursing.

Joining us as a Band 5 Forensic Community Psychiatric Nurse you will be part of a large multi-disciplinary team supporting the transition of patient care from secure settings into the community, which feeds into various sites including Reaside, Ardenleigh, Tamarind, St Andrews, Hillis Lodge (Low Secure); and Elliot House, (Approved Premises).

You will be supported by a named mentor who will be your nominated preceptor, ensuring you have the guidance and support needed to help you progress through the preceptorship programme. If you successfully complete the preceptorship and meet the standards required, you will be eligible for progression from a Band 5 role to Band 6 role 18 months after joining us.

**The postholder will**:
Act as an independent practitioner within a specialist community setting with the responsibility for intensive follow up of mentally disordered offenders.

Manage a defined caseload and provide supervision to others as appropriate within the community and will be expected to have Full UK Driving License.

Manage and assess risk of violence and offending behaviour whilst being mindful of our duty to public protection. Liaise with other professionals regarding risk management issues.

Be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care parameters, and have a working knowledge of local, national policies and legislation, which govern current service provision and audit.

Be responsible for ensuring effective communication pathways exist.

Be responsible for ensuring the promotion of equality, diversity and rights in accordance with good practice and legislation.

Be responsible for identifying and contributing to the training needs necessary in providing quality evidence-based care as appropriate.

Participate and contribute to the development of policy and strategy for community-based services within the Forensic Directorate.

Participate in liaison with non-health care professionals i.e., Police, Probation and Courts.
