Fort William, United Kingdom Scottish Water Full time

Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
- At Scottish Water we look after Scotland's most precious natural resource. From source to tap, we are committed to guarding Scotland’s reputation for refreshingly pure water and caring for our environment at the same time.
- As part of our ongoing commitment, we are looking for a Network Service Operative to join our Field Response team, working in Fort William and the surrounding area on a full-time permanent contract.
- What you’ll do
- We’re looking for a Problem-solver, you’ll make quick, accurate work of customer enquiries and network operations - helping fix any water supply problems. That might include turning your hand to valve shut-offs, identifying bursts, managing our infrastructure (such as pumps and tanks) and more.
- No two days are quite the same, you will work in a fast-paced customer centric environment that is very dynamic and rewarding. You’ll also make sure tasks are completed safely, engage with internal stakeholders to resolve complex customer or network issues and provide excellent service to our customers.
- A self-motivated individual, you’ll be able to help prioritise what needs done and work with the team to ensure we maintain the level of service that our customers expect from us. You’ll have a part to play in the training and coaching of newer members of the team ensuring they understand what we do and why we do it.
- You’ll collect relevant data, report on customer issues and promote follow on work to recover service issues. You’ll understand how to target and find leakage on the network and be able to determine the technical requirements to resolve the issue. You’ll know your byelaws from your codes of practice, so you can explain what’s what to customers. You’ll work with the leadership team to help plan larger operations and will have a part to play in managing contractors when they work on our assets.
- Now and then you’ll carry out sampling on new mains or bursts to make sure every last drop is compliant with regulatory requirements.
- What you’ll bring
- You’ll know how the water network operates - bringing knowledge of DOMS policies, reviewing risk assessment method statements, hygiene code, and access and transfer certificates.
- You’ll always have your health and safety hat on to keep the team and customers safe. Top-notch communication skills are essential too - our customers will turn to you for the information they need.
- You’ll need a valid driving licence, but we’ll provide the wheels. As part of the team, you’ll take your turn on the standby rota for out of-hours work too.
- Looking out for you
- While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.
- You’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy a maximum of 5 more if you need a little extra time. You can also take time off to volunteer in your community.
- When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.
- For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), and life assurance.
- As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash - handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
- The not-so-small print
- This role will be a Grade 5. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a salary between £29,800- £35,760, depending on your skills and experience. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to the maximum salary.
- There is a requirement to participate on an out of hours standby rota.
- Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. These checks are conducted on our behalf by a third party. Don’t worry - we’ll ask your permission before starting these checks.

A few final things worth knowing

Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.

As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.
