The Burton Academy is an alternative provision for learners aged 11 to 16 years old, whose needs cannot be met within a mainstream environment. The academy provides placements for young people in Torbay who exhibit social, emotional, and behavioural concerns.

We offer a full national curriculum, and have high aspirations for all learners, with an expectation that all secondary learners will work toward achieving at least five GCSEs.

The Burton Academy is looking for an Advocate to support our secondary-age students and their families to improve school attendance.

Working closely with the Headteacher and teaching staff, you’ll assess each pupil’s needs, and then devise tailored support programmes to ensure that they achieve a minimum of 95% attendance. These could include individual sessions and family visits/meetings, as well as implementing the local authority's legal processes for challenging poor school attendance. We’ll also expect you to assess the young people on your caseload for vulnerability or risk of harm.

**Qualifications**:
You will need to provide evidence that you can assess a range of complex family situations and put effective strategies in place. You’ll need a proven understanding of social influences on children and young people, and the principles of effective safeguarding.

**Qualifications**:

- Level 2 English and Maths.
- A relevant professional qualification (NVQ Level 2) in working with young people, e.g. teaching, youth and community work, social work, counselling or mentoring is desirable, but not essential.

**Experience**:

- Experience of working with a cohort of young people, including those with complex, high behaviour and additional learning needs.
- Report writing.
- Adhering to Safeguarding Policies and Procedures.

Additional Information

37 hours per week, term time only (39 weeks)
- ** £20,319 - £27,939** FTE (depending upon qualifications, skills and experience).
- ** £17,379.65 - £23,430.33 **pro rata.
