**Who are Fair Ways and what do we stand for?**
Fair Ways is a leading children’s services charity based in the Solent, delivering Fostering, Education, Residential, Mental Health and Family services and cares for over 400 children, families, young people and vulnerable adults each year. Fair Ways is a great place to work. We are a team. We care about each other and are all committed to making a change to the lives of the young people and service users in our care. We will not apologise for calling our staff great, the best, or world-class. Our staff are at the core of our organisation and we celebrate them by shouting it from the rooftops
**Where and when do we need you?**
Specialising in IT, we are looking for a Therapeutic Learning Practitioner to work at our SEMH School located on the outskirts of Southampton, supporting around 20 young people. Our students will have all been identified as having complex and additional needs and as such are better suited to 1:1 or 2:1 learning and will have an individualised curriculum based on their specific needs. Students are placed with Fair Ways when most other mainstream or specialist schools have failed them. As such, they are likely to have been out of education for a long period of time, having exhausted multiple placements.
As a Therapeutic Learning Practitioner at our School you will be involved in exciting and rewarding things like:
- Individualised lesson planning, delivery of lessons, marking of work and knowing when and how to differentiate appropriately using approaches which enable students to be taught effectively.
- Helping young people draw up action plans for employment, education and training and support them to achieve these goals. This will include a high standard of planning and delivery of the programme whilst supporting the individual needs of the student.
- Supporting the implementation and delivery of each students Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Personal Education Plan (PEP) by providing relevant data to monitor progress, set targets and plan lessons.
- Liaising and negotiating with Employers, Colleges, Universities, and training providers to provide the best opportunities for our students.
- Demonstrating an understanding of, and a willingness to learn, how the young peoples’ early life experiences and how such experiences may result in, or contribute to, severe challenging behaviour.
- Recognising and accepting the possible need to intervene using positive handling strategies to make incidents safe, and to work as part of a consistent team.
**Desirable. but** **not Essential**
- Whilst we value the knowledge and understanding that experience and qualifications can_ _bring,_ _we also know that some of our best people have come to us from unrelated backgrounds. These people_ _already held our core values at_ _heart,_ _and_ _with the_ _dedication_ _of_ _our_ _amazing_ _in-house_ _training and development team,_ _we have supported the rest_
Teaching roles within our frontline services help achieve our mission of making a difference through passionate care, support, and education. To support this, you will be required to have, or be working towards a minimum of the following qualification levels:
- To be qualified to A Level or equivalent.
- Have specialist knowledge of a function, trade or craft acquired through advanced formal training. BTEC National Certificate / ONC level or A level or Scottish Highers in a job related discipline, or equivalent advanced craft certificate (City & Guilds Level 3/NVQ 3).
