As a Child and Family Worker you will support registered Social Workers in assessing, planning and delivering interventions to children and families, including supporting step-down processes and transfer to Early Help services.

You will be involved in regular Fostering information Sessions and public events both face to face and virtual to provide accurate information to customers interested in Fostering with West Sussex, providing them with a high level of customer service and the opportunity to meet the Fostering Recruitment hub team and some of our West Sussex Foster Carers.

You will be supported through training, coaching and regular supervision to develop your practice and skills to ensure we are recruiting quality carers. You will work within a small, supportive team where you will have both a level of autonomy but also the support of your team within what is very much a whole team approach.

There is a requirement to work flexibly out of office hours to fulfil Fostering information sessions/events and to meet the needs of our customers. The role also requires the postholder to be able to travel throughout the county including to locations that are not always easily accessible by public transport.

**Experience and Skills** Key Skills**:

- Ability to build relationships with people on the telephone and in person; Using screening and assessment skills in order, to better understand the person’s motivation and readiness to foster and to effect positive and lasting change for our children and young people. Ability to work in an empowering way, focusing on collective strengths and resources, e.g. using a solution focused approach, and responding flexibly to diverse groups and service users whilst maintaining confidentiality.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to organise and present information clearly, concisely and accurately in ways that promote understanding, both verbally and in writing, including the ability to persuade and successfully convince others of the need to take a specific course of action and gain the trust of service users.
- Ability to analyse and interpret information in order to manage casework with people enquiring to foster with West Sussex, assessing needs, setting objectives and reviewing progress to specified targets within the Fostering Recruitment Hub; to ensure that the journey of the customer is smooth and efficient and to enable our colleagues to assess and approve foster carers to care for our children in West Sussex.
- Ability to prioritise and manage own workload, co-ordinating a range of tasks in a clear and logical way to meet agreed deadlines, whilst working towards clear goals. Able to reflect on own practice and learn from experience, taking responsibility for proactive professional development.
- Ability to maintain clear, accurate records of all work undertaken and produce written reports and correspondence for a variety of audiences including meetings, managers, our colleagues in marketing and assessing social workers whom the Recruitment hub work closely with.
- Sound and accurate IT skills, including Excel, report writing, maintaining accurate records, ensuring confidentiality, and protecting information.
- Availability to work evenings to ensure the delivery of our monthly Fostering Information sessions and to ensure we can respond to all of the fostering enquiries we receive.

**Qualifications and/or experience**:

- GCSE English and Maths, or equivalent qualification or experience operating at this level of literacy and numeracy.
- QCF Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce (or equivalent), or demonstrable equivalent comparable experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of the development of children and young people, and age-appropriate behaviour.
- An understanding of a range of interventions that can be used
