Yard Supervisor

A Yard Supervisor plays a crucial role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the busy Sale and Hire operational activity for the company.

The yard and storage facilities are equipped with Heavy Lifting equipment including spreader beams, wire ropes and general Rigging ranging in capacity but not exceeding 2000tonne.
They ensure that all equipment and materials are properly stored, finished, maintained, and accounted for at all times. Additionally, they are responsible for maintaining safety protocols, providing work reports and supervising a team of engineers available for support.
Equipment is controlled on a computer portal, loading and unloading is required daily

Key Responsibilities:
1. Safety Training and Coaching:

- Train and coach employees on safety procedures and work ethic to ensure effective job performance.
- Ensure that all workers follow safety guidelines and protocols.
2. Scheduling and Task Assignment:

- Plan and organise daily workload, crane support and loading rules etc
- Communicate with supervisors in other departments about projects that may impact yard operations.
3. Performance Feedback and Support:

- Provide regular feedback to employees regarding their performance.
- Offer support and guidance when needed.
- Promote internal training to increase knowledge
4. Equipment Inspections:

- Conduct examination of equipment prior to despatch.
- Address any maintenance or repair needs promptly.
5. Inventory Management:

- Log and control equipment and its usage, location and condition.
- Maintain an inventory of supplies and order additional items as needed.
- Keep track of stock levels and ensure efficient utilization.
6. Support for Managers:

- Ensure that all work is completed according to company policies and procedures.
7. Supervision:

- Supervise employees to ensure they are completing their tasks safely, correctly and efficiently.
- Monitor productivity and address any performance issues.

Qualifications/Experience
- Education:

- Lifting equipment knowledge and experience
- Loading and Unloading using Craneage, Plant, Forklift etc
- Banksmen course
- LEEA certification would be advantageous
- Supervisor course
- IOSH Working Safely
- Experience:
Supervisor duties
Lifting Equipment examination
Mobile/Dockside Crane usage
Heavy Plant
- Skills:

- Strong organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to manage resources efficiently.
