About the Role

Your skills and experience should cover the spectrum of material published in The Lancet. Presenting complex medical, public health, and policy topics of worldwide importance. Working with and guiding experts of international standing in producing relevant content. Content that aims to achieve change by using the best science for better lives worldwide.

**Responsibilities**:

- Assessing submitted research papers, making editorial recommendations, and overseeing the peer review process
- Taking part in the critical assessment of other editors’ papers across The Lancet family at pre-review and post-review stages
- Negotiating revisions with authors ensuring that manuscripts accepted for publication meet the highest standards of medical and scientific reporting
- Commissioning Seminars and Reviews in agreement with the commissioning team
- Working closely with the Senior Executive Editor (global) and the Editor-in-Chief in commissioning Global Health Series and Commissions
- Working closely with editorial colleagues who are contributing to the sections and mentor and educate new editors
- Leading and pro-actively shape Series and Commissions by holding face-to-face meetings and ensuring first-class novel in-depth scientific work to effect change in areas of global importance

**Requirements**:

- Preferably have a doctoral in medical science with a medical (MBBS/MS/DNB/PhD) or a PhD in life sciences.
- Have previous editorial experience in a leading general medical journal is essential
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Able to provide coaching and mentoring to less experienced editorial colleagues
- Be able to work in a deadline driven environment, handling a multitude of tasks and fixed workflows.
