The Support Worker at the Learning and Education Centre provides essential assistance to students with diverse learning needs, helping them to achieve their educational goals. The role involves supporting students individually or in small groups, assisting educators with classroom activities, and ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- **Student Support**:
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with varying learning needs.
- Implement individualized learning plans under the guidance of educators and specialists.
- **Classroom Assistance**:
- Help prepare and organize classroom materials and resources.
- Assist in the implementation of lesson plans and educational activities.
- Support educators in maintaining a positive and productive classroom environment.
- **Behavioral Support**:
- Support students in developing appropriate social behaviors and coping strategies.
- Implement behavior management strategies as directed by educators and specialists.
- Monitor and report any behavioral issues to the appropriate staff members.
- **Inclusive Environment**:
- Promote an inclusive and supportive atmosphere for all students.
- Ensure that all students feel valued and respected.
- Assist in adapting learning materials to meet the diverse needs of students.
- **Administrative Duties**:
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and support activities.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as attendance tracking and filing.
- Communicate regularly with educators and parents regarding student progress and needs.
- **Health and Safety**:
- Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times.
- Assist with personal care tasks for students with physical disabilities or health needs.
- Follow all health and safety policies and procedures of the centre.
**Qualifications**:
- High school diploma or equivalent (additional qualifications in education or child development preferred).
- Experience working with children or young adults in an educational or care setting.
- Knowledge of learning disabilities and special educational needs.
- Basic understanding of educational strategies and behavior management techniques.
**Skills and Competencies**:
- **Empathy and Patience**: Ability to work compassionately with students who have diverse needs.
- **Communication**: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- **Teamwork**: Ability to work collaboratively with educators, specialists, and other support staff.

**Additional Information**:
- This position may require lifting and physical assistance for students with mobility needs.
- Background checks and clearances are required.
- Training in first aid and CPR is preferred.
