Oxford, United Kingdom Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

**Location**: Churchill Hospital, in Oxford.

Outpatient SACT is provided in Oxford and in all the district hospitals served by the department, including Stoke Mandeville Hospital and High Wycombe Hospital (Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust). In Oxford there is a single dedicated SACT day unit shared between medical and clinical oncology. In 2009, the Aria electronic chemotherapy prescribing system was rolled out across Trusts in Thames Valley providing web based access to the chemotherapy records of all patients. The majority of patients are treated in the Day Therapy Unit (DTU), all have nurse led pre-assessment. A smaller number are treated on the oncology ward with dose intense chemotherapy.

We are keen to appoint a dynamic Consultant Medical Oncologist to join our team of 54 Consultant Oncologists working whole-time or part-time in Oxford and the regional units (22 of whom are University
appointments).

This 10 PA post is based at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust at the Churchill hospital. We are keen to work with you to create a suitable job plan so please get in touch with
us to discuss this.

The post specialises in the medical management of Sarcoma malignancies, and will work with existing Medical and Clinical Oncology colleagues, clinical nurse specialists, nurse and pharmacist prescribers, as
well as other members of the multidisciplinary teams across these tumour sites.

The Trust comprises four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

Our values, standards and behaviours define the quality of clinical care we offer and the professional relationships we make with our patients, colleagues and the wider community. We call this Delivering Compassionate Excellence and its focus is on our values of compassion, respect, learning, delivery, improvement and excellence. These values put patients at the heart of what we do and underpin the quality healthcare we would like for ourselves or a member of our family. The post-holder will participate in a 1:25 rota for Consultant of the week, AOS for the oncology ward and triage at the Churchill Hospital. We are keen that the post holder undertakes and supports the development of our rare cancer telemedicine clinics, and there will be the opportunity to contribute to service improvement and research projects in this field.
The post-holder’s duties will be primarily at Churchill Hospital, in Oxford. It is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust’s locations or outreach district general hospital clinics, including the Horton Hospital in Banbury, Great Western Hospital in Swindon, Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Wycombe Hospital and Milton Keynes Hospital.

Teaching/Research

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust is a teaching hospital Trust, and the post-holder will be required to participate in programmes for teaching clinical students, training junior doctors and in clinical
examinations. It is expected that this will be an integral part of everyday clinical activity. The post holder’s contribution to teaching, training and research will be included in the regular job plan review.
This post includes a requirement to undertake a role as Educational Supervisor within the department.

and can be discussed with Professor Mark Middleton, Head of the University Department of Oncology.

Clinical Governance

The post-holder will participate in all clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement activities as required by the Trust, and external
accrediting bodies.

Personal and Professional Development

The post-holder will be required to keep himself/herself fully up-to-date with their relevant area of practice and to be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the Trust. Professional or study leave
will be granted at the discretion of the Trust, in line with the prevailing Terms and Conditions of Service, to support appropriate study, postgraduate training activities, relevant CME courses and other
appropriate personal development needs.

All newly appointed consultants will have access to mentoring
opportunities.

Management

The post-holder will be required to work within the Trust's management policies and procedures, both statutory and internal, accepting that the resources available to the Trust are finite and that all changes
in clinical practice or workload, or developments requiring additional resources must have prior agreement with the Trust. He/she will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients, and the running of his/her clinical department under the direction of the lead clinician and/or directorate chair. In addition, the post-holder will be allocated a Deputy Leadersh
