In a nutshell

Join us as Head of Corporate Communications, where you will be instrumental in shaping our Communications strategy, delivering one central narrative through on-brand internal and external storytelling around our vision to become the most loved travel company and sustainably profitable.

In this exciting, newly created role, you will develop and implement a 24-month corporate communications strategy. Utilising owned and earned channels to promote, protect, build and enhance Virgin Atlantic's (VA) reputation. You will also co-create the People Engagement Strategy and contribute to the overall strategic vision of the function, addressing industry issues, co-ordinating crisis communications response and playing a vital role in communicating Virgin Atlantic's ambitious plans for the future. In this pivotal role, you will work closely with the Chief Executive and Chief People Officer, providing strategic counsel to the whole senior Leadership Team, serving as a trusted communications adviser and acting as deputy to Vice President, Communications.

Day to day
- Proactive and reactive media relations, building robust relationships with journalists, guarding VA's reputation and coordinating our communications response, particularly in times of disruption or crisis.
- Strategic forward planning to support the long-term business plan, including a proactive thought leadership programme to highlight VA's original thinking and points of difference - including but not limited to, preparation of speeches, op-eds, briefings and event appearances, starting with the CEO.
- Business readiness for crises, working with Business Resilience and relevant teams to develop media training, scenario playbooks, business continuity planning and management of external agencies. You will lead the Crisis Comms Cell and be responsible for Virgin Atlantic's collective action plan across internal and external channels.
- Responsibility for strategic oversight of our people engagement activity internally, with a focus on industrial relations and issue management.
- Ownership of our relationship with key partners and trade bodies to advocate on industry issues, to reach decision-makers, political audiences and opinion formers.
- Strong leadership of cross-function projects, leaning in to provide expertise and guidance with a corporate lens, including sustainability leadership, lobbying, government and industry affairs, investor relations and industrial relations communications.

About you

You will have excellent media relations skills, a solid black book of contacts and a track record of managing a range of corporate issues and campaigns - both reactive and proactive. You'll have experience of developing and delivering corporate communications strategy, while working for a recognisable brand, while experience of operating within times of crisis is desirable.

It's important that you also have experience and a good understanding of internal storytelling and communications and it's especially helpful if that has been working within a business with a strong frontline workforce where industrial relations comes into play.

You'll be able to demonstrate experience of leading high performing teams, in a fast paced setting, with the ability to prioritise effectively. In addition, you will have exceptional understanding of the competitive environment and an intrinsic understanding of the company's brand, vision and values.

So, if communications and storytelling with impact is your passion, we would love to hear from you
