As Shift Officer, you're role will be to control and provide operation of Bacton Terminal to facilitate the throughput of gas flow nominations from Supplier Terminals, Shippers and Delivery Facility Operators into the national transmission system via local operating procedures, network entry agreements and the network code.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Communicate and liaise with the Gas Network Control Centre, Supplier Terminals, Shippers and Delivery Facility Operators to facilitate the throughput of gas flow nominations in accordance with local operating procedures, network entry agreements and the network code.
- Undertake operational system actions in respect of gas quality and network entry agreement breaches and acting on Terminal Flow Advice notices
- Manage the safe setting to work of all work activities in accordance with the safe control of operations procedures. Drive a team culture of safe working and safety compliance in all work activities with National Grid Policies and Procedures, authorising permission documents, undertaking incident investigations and safety/technical inspections.
- On work being undertaken, authorise permission documents within SCO/91 & /94, and EL/96 for all work types, and undertake the role of Site Controller.
- Maintain accurate site operational records including shift log entries as required, to ensure compliance with relevant policies and procedures, legislation and regulatory requirements
- Support the construction and commissioning of new assets onto the gas transmission system and other non load
- related project works in accordance with agreed policies & quality standards. Identify the requirement to
- replace/upgrade existing plant and equipment including the preparation of business cases, initiation of design and provision of technical support within competency as required
- Contribute to the development, review and update of emergency, security, safety, operational and environmental plans and procedures to ensure safe and cost effective operation of the terminal. Undertake the roles of incident controller and site main controller during planned and emergency situations in accordance with the on and off site emergency plans, and the monitoring and control of security operations for the terminal
- Ensure that all plant, systems and equipment within the Terminal are protected, including the monitoring of third party work, and the development, planning and authorisation of routine and non routine procedures to ensure the safety of operations and the continuity of gas supplies
- Assist with routine maintenance activities associated with Terminal, Compressor Station and Pipeline and AGI systems and assets in accordance with relevant policies and procedures, contributing to performance excellence to optimise work effectiveness and efficiencies, maximising asset and plant availability and reliability.

**What You'll Need**:

- You will possess proven maintenance and operational knowledge and experience gained within a relevant engineering discipline of Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, or Operations.
- Undertaking maintenance, fault diagnosis and rectification work within the Oil & Gas (or other similar Process) Industry within relevant discipline.
- Understanding of equipment installed in hazardous areas.
- Operating, controlling and undertaking work within Safe Systems of Work.
- Appreciation of systems and equipment associated with other engineering disciplines within the Oil & Gas (or other similar Process) Industry.
- Understanding of relevant discipline Legislative Requirements.
- Understanding of Health & Safety Legislative Requirements.
- Good understanding of the control and operation of terminal plant & equipment including compressor units (aero derivatives and high voltage electrical drive machinery trains), gas blending, flow control and gas quality equipment, fault diagnosis and rectification, including a detailed understanding of how plant is safely isolated, decommissioned and re-commissioned.
- Good leadership, influencing, customer orientation and communication skills, providing the ability to promote team working and harmonious working between site staff, project teams and contractors at all levels.
- Possess relevant Training Certification and/or Evidence of Competencies to support knowledge and experience.

It is also essential that you have previously completed an Apprenticeship (or other recognised training scheme) and hold a BTEC National Certificate (or equivalent City & Guilds NVQ/SVQ Level 4) in a Mechanical, Electrical Instrumentation or Operations discipline. You will also hold an IOSH Managing Safely qualification.
