We have secured funding for a Senior Nurse / Allied Health Practitioner with current experience within Pre-Operative Assessment to join us as a Lead. This fixed term post will work across multiple teams and specialities to ensure that we are delivering good care across all of our clinical areas.

Working with a vision of “delivering excellence in everything we do”, the Lead Nurse/Practitioner for Pre-Operative Assessment will work alongside the clinical and nursing leads, Transformation Teams, Heads of Nursing and their deputies and the Trusts corporate teams. It’s an exciting opportunity to provide professional leadership to the Nursing and AHP Service with the aim of standardising Pre-Operative Assessment and preparation for surgery.

This role will require the applicant to be experienced in working with teams and supporting them through change. We are expecting to commence a pilot of digital surgical consent before the end of this year, and believe that efficiencies can be made by standardising and reviewing our patient’s pathways with the overall vision of a centralised team and service.

Lead and develop the Pre-Operative Assessment service here in Leicester, help us set standards of care and promote a holistic approach across all our teams in regard to care management and delivery. As the lead, you will need to work autonomously, provide clinical leadership and specialist knowledge and skills that enable the delivery of the highest quality, Pre-Operative care.

The Lead Quality Nurse/Practitioner will be a strong clinical leader within the Trusts POA services, easily identifiable, highly visible and accessible to patients, carers and staff. You will have a particular responsibility to support the developments of Clinical Governance and Service Improvement, to modernise patient services and ensure the active involvement of patients and carers in the way services are developed, delivered and evaluated across multiple pathways and speciality pathways.

Leading by example you will drive up standards of clinical care and have the authority to get the essential components of care right for patients - clean departments, quality care, ensuring patients are treated with dignity and respect, ensuring high standards are maintained throughout the Trusts POA pathway.

The post holder will lead on the standardisation of the POA service across specialities the and subsequent work streams. As part of this identify, plan, monitor and support areas of work that underpin delivery of this programme.

Alongside the Senior Responsible Officer and Clinical and Nursing Leads for POA, develop tools to audit current standards and provide quality assurance In relation to patient’s preoperative assessment pathways. These tools and audits should be embedded into providing assurance around changes in practice from quality improvement plans.

Maintain professional competence, authority and credibility by undertaking regular clinical sessions in Pre-assessment clinics being highly visible to patients, carers and staff, actively seeking feedback about the quality of services. Provide expert clinical leadership for the POA agenda for the Trust ensuring a standardised approach focusing on improving quality outcomes in how we prepare our patients for surgery.
