We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and well motivated individual to the role of a Band 5 Clinical Technologist in the Radiation Physics Section of the Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering Department in Nottingham. Radiation Physics is a highly specialised section within the department providing scientific and technical support to departments using ionising and non-ionising radiation both for treatment and diagnosis.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Undertake routine tests of complex X-ray equipment requiring precision measurements.

Undertake routine tests of diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound equipment.

Undertake routine tests on phototherapy equipment.

Provide support to the patient dosimetry measurement service.

Communicate with clinical users to gain a clear understanding of the nature of problems with equipment and act on this information accordingly.

Liaise with clinical staff to plan quality assurance tests.

Liaise with manufacturers’ engineers to obtain information and provide feedback on equipment.

- Able to drive. Car driver with full clean license

- Have completed the IPEM Clinical Technologists training scheme.

Experience

- Experience of working within a quality system (e.g. ISO 9000)

Communication and relationship skills

- Able to communicate concisely, effectively and clearly.
- Able to work as part of a team

Analytical and Judgement skills

Essential criteria
- Able to perform simple analytical calculations
- Able to identify the need to request advice from senior colleagues

Desirable criteria
- Able to identify and investigate faults with medical imaging equipment to inform decisions about its management.

Planning and organisation skills

Essential criteria
- Demonstrates ability to organise their work effectively and maintain a shared electronic diary.

Desirable criteria
- Experience of leading a small development project.

Physical skills

Essential criteria
- Able to lift medium weights including loading and unloading to and from a car and positioning test phantoms onto imaging equipment.
- Able to use a laptop computer in a field testing environment and make accurate keyboard data entries.

**Salary**: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
