**About us**

Avencia Consulting are recruiting on behalf of a leading Insurer based in Dublin, who are looking to hire a Financial Controller to join.
The Company currently writes lines of business including; speciality insurance: aviation & aerospace, energy, marine, property, credit & political risk, and other speciality; reinsurance: property reinsurance, property retrocession, speciality reinsurance,whole account/multi-class.

**The role**

Responsible for the Irish finance function, financial close and reporting, including regulatory returns and tax.

**Key accountabilities**
- Ownership of all aspects of monthly financial close and reporting processes for the Irish legal entity
- Preparation of external financial statements, regulatory and tax returns for the Irish legal entity, including Solvency II
- Contribution to the preparation of regulatory and tax returns for other entities
- Maintenance of accounting controls and procedures for the Irish entity
- General management of the Irish finance department
- Preparation of timely and accurate management and Board reporting to the Irish Board and executive management team
- Provision of financial guidance, relevant analyses and participation in the business strategy development
- Provision of expert peer review for the planning & analysis team
- Management of the internal and external audit process

**Skills & experience**
- Professional accounting qualification (ACA or equivalent)
- 5 years post qualification experience, including at least 3 years within the re/insurance sector
- 3 years of experience supervising other finance staff
- Good knowledge of US and Irish GAAP
- Strong and current technical knowledge of Solvency II
- Experience working with senior management and Boards
- Experience of accounting systems and processes implementation and development preferred
- Must be able to lead effectively and work effectively both independently and with teams
- Demonstrated ability to deliver and manage accurate thoughtful detail-oriented work within tight deadlines
- Ideally a critical and creative thinker with a deep technical understanding of re/insurance risk and a strong understanding of investment risk
