A large component on the role is taking incoming telephone calls from individuals in a crisis. Brilliant de-escalation skills are essential along with robust risk assessment skills and the ability to make workable safety plans with individuals, to support them to keep themselves safe.

We are looking for an experienced qualified professional (mental health nurse, occupational therapist or social worker) who can demonstrate excellent assessment and communication skills, in working with people in the community and their family members, experiencing a mental health crisis and the ability to deliver a companionate, person-centred and high quality service to patients, carers and others who contact the service.

The role of a band 6 practitioner within MHRRS is to support anyone calling into the service who has concerns about someone else's or their own mental health when they are presenting as being at risk. You will need to be adept at establishing what is going on with an individual, what risks are present and then make a plan about how to proceed. You will need to support the band 4 support, time and recovery workers who will need to discuss all calls which they take with you. The band 6's have to ensure that they are aware of any decisions which are made, to ensure the best outcomes for people and their support network.
When clinically indicated, you will need to organise a comprehensive mental health assessment of the individual at risk. You will need to make a plan with them of how they can be best supported to remain safe and to receive treatment for their mental health condition.
