**Job description**:
The work of a Defence HR Business Partner is varied, with no two days the same. An exciting role that provides you with a phenomenal opportunity to demonstrate your expertise as a HR professional by engaging and supporting Leadership Teams to achieve successful outcomes. Balancing the need to get the most from our People for Defence with getting the best from Defence for our People.

You will be part of the HR Business Partner team supporting Defence Digital and will report to the Deputy Head of HR, whilst also being part of a wider MOD HRBP team, reporting to and linked to the MOD’s central HR Directorate. While your individual role will primarily be to provide support Defence Digital, our HRBP teams operate in a flexible environment as part of the wider MOD HRBP team. This means that team members are exposed to a wide range of MOD activity and deliver a broad spectrum of business partnering outputs through varied, interesting and rewarding portfolios.

**If reserve listed for these posts, you may be contacted and offered permanent or temporary opportunities within the wider MOD HR Business Partner service over the next 12 months.**

**Responsibilities**

Although your portfolio will be influenced by the business area you partner, some of the responsibilities of an HRBP include:

- Acting as a trusted advisor, providing HR insight to influence business strategy.
- Being accountable for the identification, development, commissioning and evaluation of HR interventions to achieve business outcomes, mitigate people risks, and improve process coherence.
- Building and maintaining strong, influential working relationships with senior leaders and other collaborators within your business area and across the wider Defence People Function, including facilitating relationships with the Trade Unions.
- Working closely with senior management on strategic workforce planning to confirm future demand and securing supply routes that will ensure the availability of sufficient people, with the right skills and behaviours.
- Leading on the development and delivery of specific HR projects, such as optimising the use of apprenticeships and resourcing strategies or embedding interventions to improve employee engagement.
- Acting as an agent for change in the people space, working flexibly and collaboratively across the business and Defence People Function to ensure effective planning and execution of people change and transformation, including the management of people risks.
- Advocating and championing the Defence Operating Model, proactively contributing to the continuous improvement of HR delivery across Defence.
- As a HR Leader, supporting the development of HR capability by role modelling behaviours, acting as a coach/mentor for colleagues and undertaking and developing line management responsibilities when required.

**Person specification**:
To be successful in this role you will
- Be experienced in building influential relationships with a broad range of diverse and demanding customers
- Be a great communicator, experienced in communicating confidently about HR issues and solutions, and providing constructive challenge where appropriate
- Have practical experience of shaping and driving successful business change and transformation by identifying, advocating and deploying HR interventions
- Be adept in using an evidence-based approach, including the analysis of HR and business data, to find opportunities for improving business outcomes
- Have a high degree of resilience and be results focused
- Have a proven understanding of HR policies, processes and practices across the breadth of the Employee Lifecycle
- It's desirable for you to hold current membership of the CIPD, but if not, essential that you are willing to work towards it, through either study or experiential assessment
