We have a vacancy for an Oral Health Educator to join the Oral Health Promotion Team within Community and Special Care Dentistry.

The Oral Health Promotion Team provides oral health improvement programmes in Sheffield to improve oral health for our local communities and reduce inequalities particularly of children and young people and vulnerable adults.

The oral health team work within a range of settings through partnerships between health, local authorities and the voluntary independent sector.

We deliver oral health education and promotion programmes, providing advice and resources to a broad spectrum of clients, including groups of the population and individuals and to develop materials for use in oral health education.

To provide specialist knowledge and advice of oral and public health information, to healthcare, educational and social professions using different forms of teaching and training.

To maintain and develop partnership working within early years settings to improve oral health

To communicate and liaise with early year providers, health promotion staff and others involved in organisation and delivery of oral health promotion programmes.

To provide training, resources and information to settings taking part in a supervised toothbrushing club.

To facilitate supervised toothbrushing clubs in schools and nurseries and obtain relevant data under the direction of the oral health promotion manager.

To communicate and liaise with early years providers, health promotion staff, carers and others involved in the organisation and delivery of oral health promotion programmes.

To prepare information resources using computer software to develop, create and update presentations, leaflets, and other teaching resources.

To provide preventive information, care, and advice on common oral diseases, detailing their cause, treatment, and prevention, to individual clients and their carers.

To provide oral health messages and promote positive health behaviours to parents/carers

Community and Special Care Dentistry is the main provider of special care dentistry in Sheffield, delivering dental care in community settings for children and adults who have difficulty accessing dental treatment in general dental practice or who require special care dentistry on a referral basis.

The department work closely with the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital across the primary-secondary interface in the provision of consultant led services on referral, including in-reach specialist care within the hospital. We also support undergraduate dental students, clinicians, senior clinicians and specialists in the delivery of dental care.
