Working in our Newcastle office but providing support to Immingham and Dartford, our Operations Support Assistant will be involved in the preparation of Customs Documentation ensuring that any shipments either imported or exported meet all applicable UK laws so that entry or export can occur. The job of the Customs Clearance operative is a very important role within our operations team, you will be involved in determining the level of duties and taxes to be paid including the processing of payments on behalf of clients. Jobs in Customs are very rewarding and offer the post holder a unique opportunity to understand the import and export sector from a legal perspective.

**Responsibilities**

Responsible and accountable for (but not limited to) the following:

- working as part of a team and report to the Operations Support Manager.
- You will be involved in calculating and processing duties and taxes to be paid and may be required to sign documents under a Power of Attorney on behalf of clients. You will also pay or arrange for payment of taxes and duties.
- Liaising with Customers.
- You will be entering details onto specialised customs software including CHIEF, CNS, Destin8 and CFSP.
- Allocating the correct licence depending on type of goods being imported.
- You will be required to be fully conversant with import and export laws and regulations and expected to maintain your understanding and keep up-to-date with changes as they occur, to be able to advise customers on import and export restrictions, tariff systems, insurance requirements and all other customs related matters.
- You may also be required to prepare the necessary import documentation such as certificates of origin and cargo control documents.
- This job also requires you to liaise with officials in various agencies to ensure goods are cleared through customs or quarantine. You will also liaise with our Freight Forwarders throughout the UK to advise when goods are cleared for import/export so that they can arrange for transportation, warehousing or product distribution of imported or exported goods.
- Assisting with the onboarding of new clients, in addition to those already handled by team, ensuring smooth transition to our service
- Provide support to UK Operational Teams to realise their objectives
- Fully conversant with all Pentagon in-house systems
- Accurately update any key milestones that maybe required by our clients via our internal systems
- Process customs declarations through ASM Sequoia software in accordance with the customers instructions
- Identify specific documentation requirements are researched and adhered to.
- Understanding of Pentagon Compliance Programme
- Follow client Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)

- Comprehensive understanding of Import / Export Regimes and understanding of Customs Tariff
- Excellent Microsoft skills, in particular Excel
- Good oral and communication skills
- Comprehensive understanding of ASM Sequoia and CHIEF
- An ability to react to suit operational demands, must be able to organise time effectively and prioritise tasks to cope with fluctuating workloads
- Able to work on own initiative, and as part of a team

**Experience**
- 2+ Years experience in a customs clearance role
- Import & Export Experience
