Job description

With direction from the Senior Quality Manager provide oversight for the quality systems within the Drug Control Centre in order to maintain accreditation to ISO 17025 and World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). International Standard for Laboratories.

The Post holder will provide high quality technical support to the Drug Control Centre. The post holder will:

- Contribute to the delivery of a professional quality assurance service in accordance with ISO17025 requirements.
- Provide proven technical expertise and authoritative knowledge of work practices, processes and procedures with respect to Quality Systems.
- Support the Senior Quality Manager within the Drug Control Centre and across King’s Forensics as needed to ensure the maintenance and continuous improvement of the Quality Systems.
- Plan and conduct internal and occasional external audits against relevant UKAS and WADA ISL standards in accordance with the agreed audit programme. Write audit reports, feedback observations to management and staff, agree corrective actions, follow-up and track closure of actions.
- Prepare, maintain and update the Quality Manual, Standard Operating Procedures and all other related quality system documents.
- Provide training on quality procedures and monitor compliance against the Drug Control Centre KPI and applicable standards and regulations.
- Assist the Senior Quality Manager to implement, review and report on the DCCs internal Quality Assurance Schemes.
- Manage the non-conforming work / deviation management process, ensuring corrective actions are tracked and closed in a timely manner.
- Forge relationships with colleagues in the Department, School, Faculty, University and other WADA accredited laboratories, in order to contribute to process development and adoption of best practice.
- Actively engage in Continuing Professional Development and training initiatives.

Deputise for the Senior Quality Manager when requested.

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent

Key responsibilities

Work under the direction of the Senior Quality Manager and analytical staff of the Drug control Centre (DCC) to ensure quality assurance support for King’s Forensics is professional, well-executed and timely
- complying with regulations, university policies, and regulators (UKAS and WADA) and funders’ terms and conditions, and adopting best practice.

Decision Making, Planning & Problem Solving
- Provide advice to the staff of the DCC on the quality requirements for maintaining accreditation to ISO17025 standards and WADA International Standard for Laboratories (ISL) and implications for changes to legal standards
- Display excellent organisational skills to investigate the root cause of complex or systemic deviations, complaints or quality system failures in a timely manner to identify appropriate corrective and preventive actions for effective and sustainable improvement to the service
- Ensure an effective internal audit programme on a 4 yearly cycle using a risk analysis approach to identify frequency of audits for specific topics within the cycle whilst ensuring all specifications within ISO17025 and WADA ISL are covered
- Develop effective quality improvements and assist in their implementation
- Display attention to detail by ensuring Standard Operating Procedures are kept up-to-date through proactive engagement with staff across the wider analytical team
- Be responsible for setting and monitoring adherence to quality and other performance standards (log-books and the non-conforming process) and patterns of work
- Support the management of change, implementing best practice to ensure that change is adopted

Communication & Networking
- Support the Senior Quality Manager in the provision of advice and responses to feedback from external inspections for submission to the governing organisations.
- Communicate highly complex, specialist concepts and information, both orally and in writing in a clear fashion, where necessary to be understandable to a non-expert audience.
- Maintain knowledge and expertise, through engagement with relevant professional networks, e.g. United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and through training opportunities.

Service Delivery
- Support the Senior Quality Manager in the delivery of Quality Assurance services of King’s Forensics in order to maintain laboratory accreditation of ISO17025 for the Drug Control Centre.
- Support the Senior Quality Manager in the provision of an independent internal audit service for the Drug Control Centre.
- Assess the impact of changes in quality requirements under ISO17025 and WADA ISL and develop new procedures as appropriate to ensure compliance.

Analysis
- Support the Senior Quality Manager to conduct trend analysis on non
- conforming work and audit observations to present to the Quality & Health & Safety meetings, highlighting areas for improvement.
