Are you an Occupational Therapist with an interest in long term or respiratory conditions?

This post is a part-time (no less than 30 hours/week) post. It is working in the Community Respiratory Service (CRS) in Brighton and Hove.

You will be part of a well-established and supportive team of multi-disciplinary practitioners, clinically led by a respiratory nurse and with input from secondary care consultants and healthcare professionals. You will work with patients, individually and in a group education setting.

The CRS is a seven day service (the OT role is not required at weekends. It aims to improve the self
- management of people with chronic lung conditions through education, support and close liaison with the wider health and social care community. We provide a variety of services, including a pulmonary rehabilitation programme, supplementary oxygen assessment and rapid response for those in an exacerbation. The CRS aim to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions where possible. A significant component of the OT role will be working with patients to help manage their anxiety and breathlessness that are associated with respiratory conditions.

Car driver with car available for work are essential.

You will be based at Brighton General Hospital but may need to work at various sites across Brighton and Hove.

Being the sole OT within the Community Respiratory Service

Being an active member of the multidisciplinary team, assessing and treating patients with complex respiratory needs. This includes holding a significant caseload of patients needing anxiety and breathlessness management techniques

Identification of measures that would contribute to a stabilisation in patient status and reduction in hospital admissions

Involvement in the delivery of Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Oxygen services

Participation in the clinical and service MDT meetings

Provision of empathetic care with a clear ability to identify needs and work with multiple agencies across the whole spectrum of respiratory patients

Effective and professional communication with primary, secondary and tertiary care, and other community teams and agencies

Appropriate triage of patients who may be significantly unwell, or escalation of monitoring or medical input as required.

Identification of quality improvement opportunities.

Provision of specialist advice to other professionals both within the Trust and outside agencies, and to be able to effectively liaise with families and carers

Professional qualification such as a degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy

Current registration with the HCPC

Evidence of relevant postgraduate courses / CPD and reflective practice relevant to clinical speciality

Substantial relevant post-qualification experience covering a broad range

Experience working within a relevant specialist area

Experience in interdisciplinary working

Experience in independently managing a clinical caseload
