**Job summary**:

- The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) is leading the Government response to the Grenfell Tower fire. DLUHC has been taking immediate action to ensure the safety of residents in existing high-rise blocks of flats, prioritising the identification and remediation of unsafe cladding. An unprecedented £5.1 billion investment in building safety has been announced through which the Government is funding the cost of replacing unsafe cladding for leaseholders in residential buildings 18 metres and over in England. This is making homes safer and freeing those who, through no fault of their own, have been unable to move from their homes.**Job description**:
We are recruiting for a Grade 7 role to set policy on how the Government delivers £5.1bn of funding to address fire safety risk caused by unsafe cladding on tower blocks. This role sits within the Operational Policy team - this is a stretching Grade 7 policy role, leading a small team to deliver the policies needed for buildings to move quickly through the fund. This role would suit an enthusiastic, resilient and motivated team player looking to develop their skills in grappling with complex policy and delivery.

This requires an ability to translate technical and legal issues into practical implications for how funding for fire safety works are approved and carried out - this is a high profile role with significant ministerial interest.

**Responsibilities**:

- Assessing options and making recommendations for ministers and senior officials on legal and funding issues;
- Translating technical requirements into clear guidance for building owners, residents and leaseholders;
- Working closely with fund delivery partners to support the implementation of changes and decisions;
- Building strong relationships within the department, and with key external partners;
- Line managing a small team, supporting on their policy work and ensuring their effective development and wellbeing.

**Person specification**:

- Ability to analyse complex information and evidence to make recommendations and decisions;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience of working collaboratively and in partnership with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders;
- The ability to work at pace under pressure and respond flexibly to competing and changing demands;
- Ability to act as a supportive and empowering line manager, who enables direct reports to deliver their responsibilities and develop their capabilities;
- Enthusiasm and an appetite to deliver this ambitious agenda and make a lasting improvement to people’s lives;
- Experience of working with legal advisors and finance business partners would be helpful.
