This post provides you with the opportunity to be part of an evolving team, working alongside the care and education staff within a secure children's home to maximise and tailor the support to both staff and young people.

Service hours: 4 days a week for 32 hours a week, must be able to work every Wednesday. Working pattern is 9am - 5pm with the expectation of a 12 - 8 shift for group work one day if needed.

This Assistant Psychologist role will support and improve the professional psychological care of clients within this service across all sections of care.

You will conduct psychological assessments and provide psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified psychologist. You will assist in clinically related administration, such as audit conduction and development, as well as data collection and development of research.

The psychology service works with a Healthcare Manager, Mental Health Practitioners, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner with psychiatry input, and administration support. You would be expected to work as part of the MDT, and to work across staff teams to meet the needs of the young people.

**Key Responsibilities of the Assistant Psychologist**
- To carry out psychological assessments of clients by utilising psychological theory, including neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, observations, semi-structured interviews, and rating scales
- To complete relevant risk assessments including HCR-20 under the supervision of a qualified psychologist
- To ensure risk data base and reports are maintained and up to date
- To maintain all patient’s treatment plans and update accordingly
- To liaise with external services to obtain information in preparation for initial assessments
- To assist in developing treatment plans and programmes and facilitate treatment groups under the supervision of a qualified psychologist
- To deliver individual interventions when appropriate and under supervision
- To communicate with multidisciplinary teams in order to assess patients’ needs and review their care plans
- To attend care planning meetings
- To maintain high record-keeping standards and produce patient summaries and reports under supervision
- To assist in the development of psychologically based framework of understanding and care to benefit all service users

**Essential Skills**:

- Approved degree in Psychology conferring eligibility for graduate basis for registration with the British Psychological Society (BPS) - 2:1 or higher
- Experience of working with children in a health, care, or educational setting

**Desired Skills**:

- Experience in delivering trauma informed care
- Master's degree level or higher in psychology
- Experience in delivering 1-2-1 therapeutic sessions
- Experience in training support staff in a SECURE STAIRS framework
