**Job summary**:
**Would you like to contribute in making a difference to the lives of the people of Scotland? If the answer is yes, we have the opportunity for you working in the Crofting Commission directorate at the Scottish Government.**

The Crofting Commission is a Non-Departmental Public Body led by a Board of 9 Commissioners and consisting of approximately 70 officials responsible for the regulation of crofting and maintaining the Register of Crofts. Crofting is a traditional system of smallholdings unique to certain areas of Scotland, particularly the Highlands and Islands which brings a range of benefits including helping sustain rural communities, supporting biodiversity, and low intensity, small scale food production. Crofting is underpinned by the Crofters (Scotland) Act 1993 and the Crofting Reform Scotland (2010) Act. These Acts give rights to crofters and protect crofting land for the future, in which the Crofting Commission has a pivotal role as the sole Regulatory body.

Joining a busy group, you must be comfortable working with others to meet statutory deadlines within a policy framework. You will be able to develop and maintain good working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including internal Commission teams and external contacts such as crofters, solicitors, landlords and other government departments to ensure delivery of an effective and efficient public service.

You will regularly use Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Edge and Adobe Acrobat and will become familiar with using the case work processing system known as CIS. Once you are experienced in the role you will have the opportunity to be involved in improvement groups and you will also have the opportunity to learn basic Gaelic conversation if you wish to.

- Respond to requests for information in relation to Freedom of Information including the completion of responses to complaints, MSP/MP correspondence and related enquiries as necessary.
- Participate within Short-Term Working Groups - this will provide an opportunity to work with colleagues in different teams within the Commission to drive forward various priority projects.
