You will be part of a team supporting police officers with advice and solutions when they are considering detaining a member of the public under the Mental Health Act (1983, amended 2007).

You will also be co ordinating admissions and patient flow through the Places of Safety once detention is in place.

You will need to be computer literate and have excellent writing skills

You will co ordinate admissions to the Health Based Places of Safety, (HBPoS), within KMPT for those who have been detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act and will liaise with professionals involved in their care. These will include, (but not confined to) Police Officers, AMPH services and HBPoS staff

You will have a good knowledge of IT skills and be confident in accessing RIO the Trust patient electronic clinical record

The service is operational 24 hours per day, 7 days a week and therefore involves working unsociable hours, nights and public holidays.

The team is a small and friendly team consisting of registered clinicians and support practitioners. We hold regular team meetings and supervision and all staff are encouraged and supported to expand their skills.

You will be working alongside police officers and AMPHS who value the support from our team.

To work alongside the 836 clinician, providing effective support and advice to Police Officers, working across Kent and Medway, who are in contact with a member of the public who may require mental health support. Providing support and advice to Police Officers who are considering detaining the person under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act (1983, amended 2007)

**KEY RESULT AREAS**:
Provide timely, informative advice and support to officers over the telephone taking account of relevant mental, physical, social, cultural, psychological, spiritual, and environmental factors, in partnership with police and service user

Work collaboratively with other disciplines, service user and their carers to agree a holistic person centred safety plan that addresses the needs of the service user

Liaise with partner agencies to ensure patient safety

To manage the flow of patients through the Trust Health Based Places of Safety ensuring that the safety of staff and service user is managed

To deliver and evaluate safe, person centred care in partnership with the service user and their teams to support recovery.

To facilitate and review approved Quality Improvement initiatives within the care setting

Record advice given, plans and interventions within the RIO notes of the service user.

Complete all RIO forms in a timely manner

**RESPONSIBILITY**:

To carry out specific duties relevant to the setting e.g. offering police support and advice and liaising with AMPHS and the Places of Safety teams

To practice safely by being aware of and educating on the correct pathway, limitations and hazards of common interventions, including nursing activities and treatment ensuring that the responsible clinician is aware of all interventions provided or advised.

To liaise with and support the registered clinician throughout the clinical shift

To report any concerns promptly through the appropriate channels and modify plans when necessary to maintain safety, acting to keep patients and others safe.

To provide educational support to optimise health and wellbeing; promoting self-care where possible, helping people to make choices about their needs and involve their carers where appropriate.

Recording care given in a timely manner as per professional and local standards using approved KMPT systems.

To assess, act on and report any safeguarding concerns.

Promoting a healthy, safe and secure environment by adhering to Trust statutory health and safety requirements and maintaining confidentiality of information at all times in compliance with Trust policies, procedures, protocols and guidance.

Acting as a role model and supporting new team members through demonstration and explanation of tasks and techniques.

Facilitating and supporting staff undergoing personal and/or professional development.

Undertake and maintain all essential training to role.

Working confidently in a variety of environments according to changing service needs which present different challenges whilst continuing to act in a professional manner.

Balancing all aspects of the job role across the 7 day working pattern.
