RAL Space is involved in all aspects of the design, manufacture, assembly and test of hardware and software for space-based and ground-based scientific instruments. An important part of this work is the Product Assurance function, provided by the RAL Space Product Assurance Group from which Product Assurance Managers are assigned to each of the projects in the department.
The RAL Space Product Assurance Group is looking to appoint a Senior Specialist Product Assurance Manager (Band F) or Senior Product Assurance Specialist (Band E).
A Senior Product Assurance Specialist would be expected to act as lead Product Assurance Manager for a portfolio of projects. The role includes responsibility for writing the Product Assurance Plan then ensuring that the activities it prescribes are followed to provide appropriate control and records of materials and processes, dependability, safety, EEE components, and for quality assurance measures including supporting and auditing suppliers. The PA Manager is the formal point of contact with the customers and suppliers on all Product Assurance matters. You will have more junior PA Specialists working with you and you will need to work as a team to bring projects to fruition.

To be considered for this position at Band E you will demonstrate:
- Essential_
- Minimum of 1 year as a Product Assurance Manager
- Work experience of a scientific, engineering or technical nature
- Excellent written communication
- Understanding the many key physical and engineering challenges of building equipment
- Excellent oral communication
- Evidence of effective time management and prioritisation
- Evidence of thoroughness and attention to detail.
- Desirable_
- More than 3 years’ experience as a Product Assurance Manager
- Experience of working in a QMS certified to ISO 9001 and/or EN 9100
- ESA certification under STR-258 as an inspector of electronic assemblies
- Declared Lists and materials expert
- Cleanliness and Contamination Expert
- Evidence of effective negotiation skills
- Thorough knowledge of how to use office software effectively
- Experience with the Sapienza Eclipse tool suite
- Experience of personnel management.
To be considered at Band F you will also demonstrate:
- Essential_
- Substantial work experience in the space industry as a Product Assurance Manager
- Experience of training junior Product Assurance Technicians/Engineers/Managers
- Understanding of many of the key physical and engineering challenges of building equipment for space
- Knowledge of space industry technical standards such as ECSS, ESCC, NASA, MIL
- Experience of personnel management.

- More than 5 years as a Product Assurance Manager.
