**Aim of the Job**:
To assist in with the complex investigations held within the DCIU, including evidence gathering in the form of outside enquiries relevant to the investigation, to gather intelligence; assist in file preparation and submissions for use in court; utilise specialist knowledge and skills as required by the Unit.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Conduct investigations, obtaining and reviewing all the necessary evidence such as statements, interviews, third party material.
- Assist others with the process of dealing with detained persons
- Work closely with victims and witnesses to keep them up-dated on crime status
- Use a range of GMP systems to conduct research, interrogate and up-date information
- Prepare reports, complete prosecution files, itemise witness lists and exhibits for court, HQ, PPU and other agencies, ensuring timeliness and quality of the information provided
- Ensure property procedures are followed, including the appropriate recording, labelling and storage
- To liaise and work in partnership with other agencies relevant to the investigation
- Assist with the execution of warrants and undertaking searches
- Where necessary, attend court and give evidence if required
- Comply with National Crime Recording Standard and minimum investigative requirements
- Maintain the security and confidentiality of information at all times
- Provide specialist knowledge and skills as required by the unit (e.g. language skills; technical skills in relation to PC's / mobile phones; preparation of information relating to child abuse, domestic violence and other potentially distressing crimes).
