Hawthorns Care Centre have a unique opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist to join out phenomenal team. Hawthorns is a modern, purpose-built home set in a peaceful residential area of Peterlee. We provide excellent 24-hour nursing care for older people, alongside expert care for those living with dementia in our dedicated Memory Lane Community. We also offer a neurological rehabilitation service for younger adults and cater for respite stays and short breaks.
Our Memory Lane Community is visited regularly by a consultant psychiatrist and our neurological rehabilitation unit has a regular visit from a consultant neurologist, a team of physiotherapists and occupational therapists, in addition to our nursing, activities, support and hospitality teams.

NEED TO HAVE:

- NVQ level 2 related to care/promoting independence.
- Previous experience of a care role and to be able to demonstrate knowledge of the Speech and Language therapist role.

NEED TO DO:

- Complete daily entries into the care plan of all interventions and therapy delivered
- Use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication skills to progress rehabilitation and intervention programmes
- Make arrangements for the provision of assistive technology and/or adaptions
- Observe general behaviour, ability and response of residents during the treatment sessions
- Act as a member of the multidisciplinary team, sharing and disseminating information with relevant team members
- Liaise with outside agencies under the direction of therapists
- Establish professional working relationships with residents, their families, and friends to provide a safe and reassuring environment
- Maintain communication and working relationships with healthcare professionals in the home
