**Job Purpose**
To ensure that children and young people of Brent, including care and youth justice
experienced children and young people are actively involved in the governance, evaluation and improvement of services appropriate to them including involvement in needs assessments, strategy development, options development, procurement and review.
To promote and enhance the value and impact of participation to children and young people of Client and Council managers and leaders to effectively foster positive perceptions of young people in the borough through engagement and participation activities.
To ensure that children and young people have a positive and meaningful experience of participation through developmentally appropriate engagement which is sensitive to disability, special education need, trauma and loss.
To develop and lead participation and engagement sessions with children and young people
**Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities**:
To demonstrate appropriate understanding, skills and expert knowledge in youth participation and in valuing diversity to successfully work with a range of young people including those with special needs and those that may need more support to engage.
Develop, promote and deliver a wide range of materials, projects and activities that introduce the purpose and impact of participation to children and young people of client.
Support formal and informal or ad-hoc groups of children and young people to identify, plan and execute activities which promote their views and influence on issues of importance to them.
Plan, promote and lead effective participation of children in care and care leavers through Care in Action, Client’s Children in Care Council
Build young people’s skills to confidently express their views to senior leaders and elected members.
To be the link person for client Youth Parliament (BYP) and support all members with their responsibilities, such as regular attendance at monthly parliament sessions and supporting them with implementing the parliament’s chosen priorities and campaigns.
To directly support members of the BYP Executive to contribute to Council committee meetings and other formal meetings
To lead participation and engagement workers in developing effective participation of children in care and care leavers through Care In Action
Anticipate, support and respond to the needs of vulnerable young people in the planning and leading of events out of hours and in the community ensuring their safety and well being at all time and reporting back to key professionals, family and carers any matters which require follow up.
Ensure that all project work is monitored and evaluated for value and impact and project outcomes are reported to senior managers.
Demonstrate appropriate understanding, skills and expert knowledge in youth participation and in valuing diversity to successfully work with a range of young people including those with special needs and those that may need more support to engage.
