We are seeking a highly ambitious and motivated Post-Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to join our team and lead experimental investigations into the fundamental processes associated with geological storage of carbon dioxide and hydrogen. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the EU H2020 funded HyUsPRe (Hydrogen Underground Storage in Porous Reservoirs) and PilotSTRATEGY (CO 2 Geological Pilots in Strategic Territories) projects.
**The Opportunity**:
As a PDRA, you will conduct experimental investigations on the geochemical processes involved in the geological storage of carbon dioxide and hydrogen. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Experimental characterisation of geochemical reactivity of carbon dioxide and hydrogen with different subsurface reservoir, caprock, well cement and pure mineral samples at a range of storage temperatures and pressures.
- Determine mineral reaction rates if any reactions are observed during the experiments.
- Quantify potential caprock and reservoir integrity loss during hydrogen and carbon dioxide storage.
- Undertake geochemical modelling using PHREEQC to support the experimental results.
Your work will be critical in the advancement of our understanding of the geological storage of carbon dioxide and hydrogen.
**Your skills and attributes for success**:
- Ph.D. in a relevant area (e.g. Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Chemical engineering, or Material Science) or near completion.
- Knowledge of advanced geochemistry and experience in geochemical modelling.
- Evidence of experience in the development and use of laboratory equipment, making challenging analytical measurements and refining technical procedures.
- Strong sense of task ownership and responsibility and demonstrable technical problem-solving abilities.
- Experience in working with high pressure and temperature gas systems.
