**Job Purpose**-GALLANT is trialling new sustainable solutions to the city’s key environmental challenges, providing a whole-systems approach that considers the impacts of the programme’s interventions on policy, public health, wellbeing, and the economy. GALLANT aims to deliver the social priorities of the UN Sustainable Development Goals while remaining within the planetary boundaries of a 1.5°C world, using doughnut economics as a framework.
The post-holder will coordinate strategic planning and progression of monitoring and evaluation of GALLANT. The programme’s place-based approach requires co-production and co-evaluation with local communities and other stakeholders; the post-holder will therefore work closely with the Research Associate in Innovative Methods for Co-Evaluating Collaborative Community Practices (Workstream 2: Community Collaboration), and alongside central University, College-level and UKRI-NERC impact officers. They will also work closely with the GALLANT Communications Officer to ensure that M&E and Communications activities work together to achieve, record and promote impact.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. To develop and coordinate a strategic, programme-level monitoring and evaluation protocol to enable work package and workstream teams to create and implement their individual M&E plans.
2. To coordinate a cross-programme monitoring and evaluation working group to carry out M&E activities, comprised of representatives from GALLANT’s work packages and workstreams.
3. To advise on relevant M&E input to reporting requirements of the University, Council and funder UKRI-NERC, including future University REF submissions.
4. To represent GALLANT on M&E activities within the UKRI-NERC Changing the Environment Programme.
5. To be an active member of the GALLANT Central Management Team, liaising, communicating and working with other Team members to deliver on GALLANT’s priorities.
6. To undertake any other relevant duties as required.

**Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience**

**Knowledge / Qualifications**

**Essential**:

A1 Either: Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar or number of different roles.
Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training), and experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s).
A2 In-depth knowledge and understanding of a range of evaluation theories, designs and approaches.

**Desirable**:

B1 Knowledge and understanding of programme monitoring and evaluation in a higher education, local authority, or similar setting.
B2 Knowledge and understanding of sustainability in relation to environmental issues and/or related social and political contexts.
B3 Detailed knowledge of one or more areas of academic research that relate to environmental sustainability.
B4 Knowledge and understanding of whole-systems approaches, doughnut economics, and/or similar theoretical frameworks.
B5 Knowledge of higher education grant funder guidelines for monitoring and evaluation.
B6 A formal monitoring and evaluation qualification.

**Experience**

**Essential**:

E1 Experience in project or programme monitoring and evaluation.
E2 Experience of recording, processing, analysing and presenting data for a diverse range of audiences.
E3 Experience of planning and progressing work activities within professional guidelines and policies, using initiative and independent judgement.

**Desirable**:

F1 Experience in monitoring and evaluation on a large-scale programme or project.
F2 Experience in monitoring and evaluation in an academic research, local authority or third sector setting.
F3 Experience in a role that includes co-production and/or co-evaluation with local communities.
