**Job summary**:
The Government Digital Service (GDS) is part of the Cabinet Office. We work at the very centre of government to make user-focused digital transformation happen. We build and maintain common platforms, products and tools for others to use and create great public services that are accessible, inclusive and easy to use. We also work with departments to identify patterns, share learning and create change to make government more efficient.
Our teams are organised around delivering on our priorities, which are to:
- make it easier for people to find what they are looking for on GOV.UK
- build common service platforms to make it simpler and cheaper to build quality digital services
- promote agile, user-centred design practices both in the UK and across the world
As part of the GOV.UK One Login Programme, a government major projects portfolio programme, you will be part of delivering a simple, safe and secure way for users to log in and prove who they are in order to access all government services.
GOV.UK One Login is being designed and built for the many, not the few. It will unite services across government, revolutionising the way government departments interact digitally with users. GOV.UK One Login will deliver an accessible and essential function that will change lives and help millions.
The right person will join the Strategy, Policy and Engagement team working to support the development and implementation of GOV.UK One Login. We lead on a wide portfolio of work that is at the heart of this high profile major government transformation programme covering business case development, funding, assurance, benefits and evaluation, policy development, legislation, engagement for product adoption and external stakeholder engagement. We are an ambitious and visionary team so if you want to be part of this, then we’d love to hear from you.
Find out more at the GDS Blog.
**Our team**:
We are the digital identity team. We are taking the first step in a radical transformation of government service provision. We will develop a single sign-on to access all government online services and fast, easy methods for people to prove their eligibility that expand access to those who are currently excluded. This is a cutting-edge, high-profile area of work with strong interest and support from No. 10 and the Cabinet Office’s senior leadership.
**Job description**:
If you care about ensuring vulnerable people can access the services they need, protecting individuals and the public purse against fraud, making it much easier and quicker for all of us to get personalised government advice and support, and improving policy and service development by harnessing the power of data - then this is the role for you.
As a strategy and policy adviser you’ll:
- help develop and communicate a compelling vision and evidence-based strategy for fast, easy, streamlined access to online government services
- provide regular inputs into impactful presentations and briefings for ministers and seniors, with responsibility from time-to-time for leading on these
- own and develop key sections of business cases for spending reviews, working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams, securing cross-government support and engaging with the Treasury
- work with internal economists, the NAO and Civil Service Group (Cabinet Office) colleagues to refine and agree new benefits methodologies
**Person specification**:
We’re interested in people who have:
- strong drafting and verbal briefing skills, enabling you to communicate effectively and concisely within and outside your team
- the ability to bring clarity, structure and agreement to a context of conflicting priorities
- experience in establishing and maintaining stakeholder relationships across government or civil society and industry
- the ability to stay focussed and calm under pressure, and to contribute to multiple work streams at the same time
**Benefits**:
The benefits of working at GDS
