Pure Permanent Recruitment are seeking a highly experienced General Secretary and Treasurer for a Leicestershire based client.

Working options: Ideally office based but hybrid will be considered

Work location: Loughborough, Leicestershire region

Job duties of the General Secretary and Treasurer:

- They shall be accountable to the Executive Committee and Biennial General Council Meeting of the client and shall report regularly to the Executive Committee.
- They will manage the affairs of the client according to rules, statute and policies agreed.
- To advise the Executive on appropriate financial and other strategies to develop and improve the affairs and position of the client.
- To manage the staff of the Fedclient through agreed team and individual supervision arrangements and oversee all personnel and staffing issues to a high professional standard.
- To support the President and the Vice President during their tenure of office
- To maintain records of the client in an orderly and accessible manner
- To act as Secretary and Trustee of the client's Pension Scheme, Educational Trust and Trading Company.
- To oversee the finances of the client and ensure full reporting to the Executive.
- To oversee the work of research, education and organising development within the organisation.
- To liaise with international bodies as appropriate in the pursuit of client policies and campaigns.
- To represent the client as required with the media, other organisations and campaigning bodies.
- To liaise regularly with the affiliates of the clients and to foster good relationships with potential affiliates.
- To oversee arrangements for the BGCM.
- To oversee arrangements for all international work of the client.
- To maintain links with previous active members of the client and Executive.
- To present a positive image of the client within the wider trade union movement and public.
- To oversee the media and publicity and publications work of the client.
- To produce a comprehensive report on work undertaken for the client as General Secretary and Treasurer and planned work to each Executive meeting.
- To produce a comprehensive report on work undertaken for the client as General Secretary and Treasurer for the BGCM.
- To ensure the accurate minuting of meetings and recording of events.
- To actively seek out new funding sources for the client and to oversee the effective management of any projects generated as a result of this.
- To manage the effective communications of the client with affiliates and externally.
- To proactively develop strategies for growing the organisation.

Essential requirements.:

- Demonstrably strong commitment to the trade union movement.
- Demonstrably successful track record in senior leadership and management.
- Understanding of organisational finances, audit procedures and accounts.
- Commitment to the trade union organising approach.
- Leadership of policy development and campaigning.
- Ability to work with government and international organisations and partners.
- Experience of media and communications work.
- High level of written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrable record in democratic accountability and report writing and presentation.
- Strong vision for and commitment to the post.
- Understanding of the role of education in developing the organisation.

Desirable skill set:

- Wide knowledge of the trade union movement
- Ability to commit ten years to the post.
- Knowledge of the international trade union movement.
- Experience of working with community organisations.
- Knowledge of adult education practice and funding.
- Experience of pension scheme management.
- Experience of supporting charity.
- Use of effective research in union building.
- Experience of successful commercial enterprise.
- Significant experience of adult education.
