**Job Title**:Progress Mentor

**Department**:Student Services (Safeguarding and Wellbeing Team)

**Reports to**:Student Services Manager (Safeguarding and Wellbeing)

**Location**:Mainly based at our Hammersmtih Campus but with regular working at our Southall and Ealing Campuses.

**Key Purpose**:
To work one-to-one with students requiring additional support, ensuring that they are safe and well inside and outside college, and helping them to successfully attend classes and succeed at college.

Working closely with the Deputy DSL and Safeguarding Officer to help manage safeguarding concerns, referring to and working collaboratively with outside agencies as necessary.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**:

- To work one-to-one with a caseload of students who have been identified as needing additional support, helping them resolve issues inside and outside college that may be adversely affecting their ability to study.
- To deliver workshops or tutorial sessions to groups of students as required, for example on mental health and wellbeing, exams stress, or healthy relationships.
- To monitor the attendance and academic progress of the students on your caseload.
- Contribute to students’ understanding of their rights and responsibilities as students and as citizens in their community, promoting fundamental British values and encouraging good, productive working relationships with their peers.
- To maintain an awareness and a professional curiosity regarding the sorts of safeguarding issues that are likely to arise for our students, and to raise any concerns quickly and accurately.
- To support students in setting their own targets or goals and coaching them towards achieving these.
- To make referrals to external agencies such as social services and mental health services. To build working relationships with professionals outside the college who are supporting students on your caseload, and to represent the college in meeting with these services.
- To build relationships with students’ parents and carers, sharing information where appropriate and ensuring their concerns are listened to and addressed.
- To provide cover as required in the Student Support Centre, Common Rooms and other spaces managed by Student Services, across all three campuses, as required.
- To work with the Student Services Manager to identify, maintain and Improve existing internal and external partnerships to support students.
- To accurately record your case notes on MyConcern.

**General Duties and Responsibilities**:

- To be an active member of the Student Services Team and to attend team and other meetings
- To participate in the Staff Appraisal Scheme and to undertake training based on individual and service needs.
- To take a lead in creating or to promote a positive, inclusive ethos that challenges discrimination and promotes equality and diversity.
- To comply with College policies and guidelines in respect to health & safety
- To demonstrate positive personal and professional behaviour as specified by the College Code of Conduct.
- To undertake continual CPD to support the College culture of continuous improvement.
- To meet minimum relevant occupational standards.
- To keep up to date with the skills required to fulfil the role.
- To undertake any other duties commensurate with grade as may be reasonably requested by College management.
- You will be responsible for protecting staff and learners from all preventable harm as per College Safeguarding procedures.
