White City, United Kingdom Imperial College London Full time

This post will provide underpinning technical support for the Dangoor Reach Out Makerspace. The Makerspace is for local young people aged 11-18 and contains a wide range of different equipment, including 3D printers, laser cutters, woodworking machinery, electronics and crafting tools. The space is designed to help young people design, create and bring their ideas to life.

This new role is vital to supporting the Makerspace and its current programmes, the Maker Challenge and Proto-Maker Challenge. In addition, the technical assistant will also enable the Makerspace team to continue to innovate and develop new activities and programmes on and off-site, ensuring that all workshops and activities for young people are resourced appropriately and are undertaken safely.

The Reach Out Makerspace Technical Assistant will join the Outreach division of the College, supporting their remit of enabling young people to realise their aspirations and fulfil their potential. Assisting the College on further widening access and participation for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and in our local communities.

Due to the nature of the activities (e.g. after school, weekends), the post requires a flexible approach to work as many activities will be outside of typical working hours, on and off-site.

**Duties and responsibilities**:
As the Makerspace Technical Assistant, you will support the smooth running of the Dangoor Reach Out Makerspace, ensuring that activities are fully resourced and the space is in safe working order.

- Equipment and materials for activities and workshops are sourced and prepared in advance of events
- Staff are briefed and supported on safe working practice within the workshop and various activities
- Activity sessions on and off-site are supported - for instance by clearing activity areas during sessions, supporting workshop participants using new equipment, assisting with delivery and training etc.

A full list of duties and responsibilities are available in the downloadable job description.

**Essential requirements**:
It is expected that the Makerspace Technical Assistant would be able to demonstrate the following skills and experiences:

- Experience in, or a keen interest in, making or design-based work
- Experience with or, a keen interest in, working with young people and community groups
- An understanding of basic workshop health and safety protocols
- Good organisational skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

Due to the nature of the activities (e.g. after school, weekends), the post requires a flexible approach to work as some activities will be outside of usual working hours. The post-holder should be willing to get involved in activities and learn new techniques where required. Experience in using the types of equipment housed in the Makerspace would be advantageous, but full training will be provided where required.
