We are seeking two Patient Safety Partners to take part in our patient safety governance at University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS Foundation Trust. This is a patient and public involvement role which will require approximately one day per month working with the Trust's Patient Safety Team. The role attracts an optional involvement payment and covering of reasonable out of pocket expenses for the time given for this role.

The newNHS Patient Safety Strategy (July 2019)and theFramework for involving patients in patient safety(June 2021)recognises the importance of involving patients, their families and carers and other lay people in improving the safety of NHS care.

A key part of this new framework is the introduction of Patient Safety Partnerroles in NHS organisations, empowering service users and representatives of the local community to be involved in their own safety, as well as being partners alongside staff in improving patient safety.

University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS Foundation Trust welcomes this new and innovative role and are seeking two Patient Safety Partners to make a valuable contribution to our patient safety governance.

The Patient Safety Partner (PSP) will be actively involved in the design of safer healthcare at University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS foundation trust attending the Patient Safety Group meeting on a monthly basis with potential further opportunities to provide a patient and public voice for other patient safety activities across the organisation and to participate in patient safety improvement projects.

The initial tenure of this role will be for a 12 month period.

Support and training will be provided to Patient Safety Partners to carry out this role as required.

University Hospitals Bristol & Weston is committed to the continuous improvement of patient safety, it is envisaged that this new Patient Safety Partner role will evolve and develop as part of the wider involvement network within the organisation and the local community it serves.

The Patient Safety Partners will be able to contribute their unique perspective of how patient safety issues can impact service users and enable this to become a core element of our patient safety learning and improvement activities. They will be able to communicate with a range of NHS staff over strategic issues and provide a patient carer or lay perspective.

They will be willing to represent a view of patients, carers and the wider public on all matters, and to share perspective and experience.

They will have an understanding of and consideration for equality, diversity and inclusion requirements to ensure patient safety improvements are aimed to keep everyone safer.

The Patient Safety Partners will be required to attend planned patient safety meetings which will continue to be held remotely and participate in workshops.

They will be able to communicate effectively in a number of formal and informal settings and review and comment (where relevant) meeting papers.

They will need to comply with relevant policies and maintain strict confidentiality in respect to discussions and information where required.
