**Seasonal Retail Sales Assistant**

At The Village Farm Shop we want to ensure that all customers have a wonderful experience with us, and we cannot do that without our hardworking members of staff. All our team members need to enjoy putting a smile on a customer’s face and should have a passion for the produce we sell.

We want our customers to receive the highest levels of customer service and a warm welcome, whether you are dealing with them in store, online or over the phone.

We are looking for someone to join our team from late March to September (initial contract duration) working primarily on weekends but with the flexibility for some weekday shifts too. Approximately 20 - 30 hours a week.

**Key roles and responsibilities**
- Serving customers at the till points, deli counter, processing sales through the till points, accurately handling cash and card transactions as well as reconciling and cashing up at the end of the day
- To engage with customers, build rapport and provide excellent levels of service to try and maximise sales
- To maintain an excellent level of product knowledge in order to assist customers with finding products and offering them accurate and relevant product information and recommendations to maximise sales
- To maintain an attractive shop floor, well stocked, clean, tidy and free from hazards. To include daily rotation of stock by date and restocking in a timely manner
- Assist with opening up the shop, setting up as well as closing and locking up as needed. This may include sorting newspapers at the start and end of the day.
- To assist with the ordering of stock and the receiving, checking off, pricing and storage of new deliveries, as well as helping with the control of stock and stock-taking
- Maintain the shop systems to ensure they accurately record activity - to include accurate use of the systems to ensure stock levels, sales information and product information are correct as well as monitoring sell by dates and discounting in line with company policy to minimise waste
- Assist with stock taking as required
- Day to day cleaning of the shop and staff areas
- Reporting to management any complaints or issues immediately
- To promote and safeguard our brand at all times
- To comply with all aspects of Food Hygiene and Health and Safety

**Person specification**
- Be a confident communicator who can work well under pressure whilst remaining calm and collected
- A positive and enthusiastic person with excellent customer service skills
- An individual who is able to work well within a team but also use their own initiative
- You should have the ability to prioritise tasks and manage your workload effectively
- Some who is organised with excellent attention to detail
- You will have a desire to work hard and do the best possible job

**Skills required**
- Strong English skills are essential, both written and verbal
- Confidence with systems is preferred, but full training will be given

Health and safety, hygiene
- Ensure that you are wearing a clean uniform appropriate to the role you are undertaking
- Personal jewelry should be kept to a minimum
- Ensure that your hands are scrubbed before starting work and washed frequently in the hand wash sink throughout the day. Especially after using the loo, after breaks or after handling deliveries or waste

Premises
- Ensure that food safety and good hygiene practice is carried out.
- Ensure that good housekeeping practice is carried out at all times, making sure that the entrance, shop floor and till area are clear of hazards.
- Ensure that you understand and adhered to the retail cleaning schedules.
- Ensure that all areas are at all times tidy and clear of hazards.
- Ensure that any change in the work place that potentially puts any member of staff or the public in danger is reported immediately.
