**Shared Reading Group Leader - Volunteer**

The Reader is a nationwide charity which brings people together to read stories and poetry aloud. As we read, we pause to explore our thoughts and feelings. We call this Shared Reading. Shared Reading improves wellbeing, reduces loneliness, and helps us find new meaning in our lives.

We are looking for volunteers to run Shared Reading groups in Rotherham Libraries.

The Reader provides a thorough training programme for every volunteer Reader Leader. You’ll also be given the opportunity to attend a taster session beforehand, to make sure that it is the right opportunity for you.

You will benefit from:

- High-quality online training, that will fully prepare you to lead Shared Reading sessions;
- Access to an online hub of Shared Reading resources, including poetry and stories;
- Online workshops and Shared Reading groups for Reader Leaders;
- Ongoing guidance and support from our dedicated Shared Reading Practice Team.

The training is made up of 6 half-day sessions, which take place online, over 6 consecutive weeks. Once trained, volunteers usually deliver groups on a weekly or fortnightly basis.

For Shared Reading to be at its most effective, continuity is important. Therefore, we kindly ask that anyone undertaking the training intends to volunteer with The Reader for at least 1 year.
