We have a fantastic opportunity for a Recreation Activity worker to join our team at the Hartington Unit.
As an Inpatient Recreation Activity Worker, you will be based on the ward and in a small Hub area delivering and facilitating 1:1 and group activities that will meet a range of needs for our inpatients including physical, mental and social wellbeing. You will also work closely with the multi-disciplinary team such as Medical, Nursing, Therapy and Psychology staff.
The post holder will be delivering therapeutic activities to support and aid recovery whilst an inpatient. As a Recreation Worker you will also be responsible for assisting patients with healthier life style choices and physical activity. Our mental health services provide voluntary and in-voluntary short-term in-patient management and treatment during an acute phase of mental illness, until the person has recovered enough to be treated effectively and safely in the community.
The post holder will also part of a team in developing the recreation service when the team moves into the new inpatient unit which will be known as the Derwent Unit in late 2024.
Full time and part time to be considered.
The post holder will be expected to adopt the person-centred philosophy of the service and provide care which promotes well-being, independence and enhances the autonomy of the service user. The post holder will be able to sustain a respectful, hopeful, consistent and reliable therapeutic relationship with service users that reduces social exclusion.
This role will be will be supervised in order to promote social inclusion and contribute towards the needs assessment, care planning and implementation for people with severe and/or enduring mental health, particularly in regard to their development of daily living skills.
The post holder will also be expected to carry out delegated duties, introducing service users to the recreational service, organising and planning and facilitating recreational activities, working together with patients in groups and 1:1s and have IT knowledge to implement notes on our IT systems.
As a member of the Recreation Team the post holder will be expected to adopt the policies and philosophy of the service. The post holder will present a positive image of the recreational service and to the Trust, service users, carers and the community.
The member of the recreation service will support the running and development of the small Hub area which allows patients to experience activities off of the ward and in a monitored environment. The post holder will also be responsible for the handling of monies when supporting a small shop service for patients.

Later this year the Hartington Unit will move to a brand new inpatient unit in Chesterfield called the Derwent Unit. This building is designed to offer improved mental health services to our inpatients.
