An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Estates & Facilities directorate at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for an exceptional and inspirational Assistant Director of Estates and Engineering to join our team.

In this high profile role, you will be working closely with the Director of Estates & Facilities and the senior management team operating at a senior level within the organisation and beyond.

As the Assistant Director of Estates and Engineering, you will provide senior operational leadership to the Trust’s estates infrastructure across the organisation, play a key and visible role within our senior management team and will be responsible for the effective delivery of all of the Estates and Engineering Services across the Trust’s sites.

You will be the principal advisor on all compliance and operational estates matters to the Trust Executive Team and will work closely with internal colleagues and external partners to ensure that all Estates and Engineering implications are considered as part of any service reconfiguration schemes and in the development of the longer term strategy for the Trust.

You will also lead the Trust's work in ensuring that patients are cared for in an estate that is safe and well-presented and will be effective in motivating teams to deliver consistently high standards.

As the Assistant Director of Estates and Engineering you will have;
- Experience at a senior level in the management of estate and facilities in a complex organisation, including health.
- Professional and specialist knowledge across the range of estates and facilities activities acquired through Bachelor Honours Engineering degree, post-graduate courses and experience to masters or equivalent level.
- Experienced and well versed in all areas of building maintenance including HVAC, Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering.
- Managerial, financial and strategic experience.

You will be;
- Responsible for the effective delivery of all of the Estates and Engineering Services across the Trust’s sites.
- The principal advisor on all compliance and operational estates matters to the Trust Executive Team.
- Working closely with internal colleagues and external partners to ensure that all Estates and Engineering implications are considered as part of any service reconfiguration schemes and in the development of the longer term strategy for the Trust.

Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital services to a growing population of around 700,000 people living across Bedfordshire and the surrounding areas across two busy hospital sites in Bedford and Luton. Both hospital sites offer key services such as A&E, Obstetrics-led Maternity and Paediatrics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic management and delivery
1. The Assistant Director of Estates and Engineering is responsible for the local management of the organisation’s infrastructure and engineering compliance functions to ensure a high quality, cost effective service, which contributes to the delivery of effective patient centred health care.
2. Actively contribute to the Trust’s delivery of the key strategic priorities.
3. Responsible for keeping the Trust’s land and property in repair, creating and maintaining a safe, suitable and attractive environment for provision of healthcare, including its leased or PFI owned real estate and assets.
4. Responsible for the strategic development, business planning, operational delivery, performance standards and regulatory compliance of Estates and Engineering services, whether directly provided or managed under contract.
5. The Assistant Director of Estates and Engineering is responsible for the delivery of a high quality and responsive service and the management of its workforce in the following areas:

- Reactive Maintenance
- Planned Maintenance
- Fire Safety Management
- Engineering Compliance
- Water Safety Management
- Control of Asbestos
- Contract Management
- Piped medical gas systems
- Electronic & Biomedical Engineering (EBME)
- Sterile services
