At Gartnavel Royal the delivery of safe and effective care is paramount to our philosophy of care. We believe in preserving people’s dignity during their stay with us. We also believe in looking after our staffs welfare and we are now keen to recruit a Band 5 Patient Activity Coordinator to join our in patient mental health clinical teams.

The post holder will:

- assume a specific role in coordinating, planning and implementing programmes of therapeutic activity which are tailored to meet individual patient needs.
- be expected to support other healthcare professionals to deliver, or, assist in the delivery of activity programmes. There is an expectation that you will be able to supervise and teach both trained and untrained staff acting in the capacity of a mentoring role where required. There will be times when you will be required to assume the full range of duties and responsibilities of the registered mental health nurse in relation to care and service delivery. This will include taking charge of the ward should the need arise.
- be expected to carry out a range of duties to maintain a safe ward environment. These will include observing and escorting patients, reporting back to the registered nurse and health and safety checks.
- be expected to participate in the management of difficult clinical situations and will play an important role in maintaining the safety of the environment.

The ability to operate as a team player is an essential component to this role. Equally important is the ability to treat people with dignity and respect and to act in a collaborative manner with service users, carers and varying staff groups.
