**Role Purpose**

The **Information Governance Officer **is responsible for responsible for supporting the development of GTC Scotland’s Information Governance Framework, ensuring that all appropriate action plans, policies, and procedures are in place and fully implemented in line with statutory and regulatory requirements and best practice. The role also supports the processing of requests for information and provides advice and guidance on a wide range of information governance related matters.

**Role Specific Responsibilities**
- Develop, implement, and embed information governance policies, procedures, and controls across GTC Scotland to ensure compliance with the relevant legislation and achieve best practice.
- Manage a caseload of complex information access requests through recording and coordinating responses for information to respond appropriately in line with statutory timescales and to ensure compliance with all aspects of the relevant legislation.
- Support the Customer and Business Support team to respond to more straightforward information requests and ensuring processes are developed for this appropriately.
- Provide information governance and compliance advice, guidance, and training to employees as well as Council and Panel members.
- Ensure any data protection incidents are appropriately reported, monitored, investigated and mitigated.
- Respond to stakeholder/external requests for advice, including on privacy notices.
- Manage the production and maintenance of publication schemes.
- Carry out the role of GTC Scotland Records Manager in line with the Public Records (Scotland) Act, including:

- Ensuring that GTC Scotland records are arranged according to an appropriate best practice methodology
- Developing and maintaining the GTC Scotland Records Management and Retention Schedule
- Auditing the quality of record-keeping and ensuring consistency of approach across GTC Scotland, and
- Advising on historical preservation of our records.
- Perform other duties that may be reasonably required within the scope of your role as assigned to you.

**Qualifications and Training**

**Essential**

Degree or equivalent qualification (SCQF level 9) or equivalent attested vocational or work-based training

SCQF Level 6 English (or equivalent)

Evidence of ongoing professional learning

**Desirable**

Industry/Post-graduate qualification in information governance with a strong focus on freedom of information and data protection

**Knowledge, Skills and Experience**

**Essential**

A proven track record of working in the information governance and compliance sector

Deep, evidenced specialist knowledge and understanding of current Freedom of Information and Data Protection laws alongside the other law/ regulation applicable to the management of information

Experience of involvement in policy and process development

Evidenced experience in building and maintaining effective working partnerships with internal and external users and partners

High quality written skills

High quality research and analytical skills

An understanding of the political, educational and wider context and the impact for GTC Scotland

Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality

**Desirable**

Experience working for or with a regulatory body or charity
