- Job description- We’re looking for a motivated individual to join our East Anglia Area as an Fisheries Enforcement Officer (FEO). This exciting and unique opportunity will suit an individual with experience of tackling crime or dealing with regulatory non-compliance issues, criminal investigations, and submitting casefiles. Using the intelligence-led enforcement approach to detect and deal with fisheries offences, you’ll help us to protect and enhance our fisheries habitats and stocks for current and future generations.
As an FEO, you will hold an authorisation under the Salmon & Freshwater Fisheries Act 1975, conferring a wide range of enforcement powers and responsibilities and demanding high standards of professional conduct. You will need to complete an appropriate conflict resolution course to obtain and maintain this authorisation.

You'll also support other Fisheries Enforcement Officers across the Area when required. You need to be flexible, able to plan, adapt and respond where pressures demand. Excellent administration skills are necessary, including keeping accurate records, organising and managing your workload and inputting/retrieving data.
- The team- You'll join two existing Fisheries Enforcement Officers in a dedicated Area Enforcement Team, specialising in dealing with serious and significant complex environmental crime. To achieve our aims, we work closely with regulatory and specialist technical teams across East Anglia Area and with enforcement, fisheries and intelligence colleagues in other Areas and Nationally. We also routinely work with external enforcement bodies.
- Experience/skills required- You will possess;
A keen interest in, and knowledge of, enforcement;

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and organisational skills;
Confidence dealing with hostile situations and ability to manage your own health and safety and that of others;
A proven ability to complete tasks accurately with minimum supervision, either working individually or as part of a team;
A full UK driving licence and ability to swim;

Experience of working in the field of fisheries enforcement and a knowledge of angling is desirable;
Boat handling experience/qualifications and conflict resolution techniques is desirable;
Contact and additional information- The successful applicant will travel and work across our East Anglia Area as required.
The role requires participation in an out-of-hours standby rota, with periods of unsociable working and incident response. It also requires working on a Saturday or Sunday, with a weekday rest-day.
At this stage we anticipate holding scenario-based interviews (incorporating the above competencies and a number of others - see our "EA capability dictionary" by searching online using any web browser). Interviews are likely to be held at our Ipswich or Ely Offices, week commencing 20th February 2023 and / or 27th February 2023 and / or 6th March 2023 (this may change).
